Ewan the (Magical) Dream Sheep

I wanted to write a post about Ewan the Dream Sheep as we’ve both been so impressed with him. It is fair to say that he has revolutionised our lives. I’m sure lots of you who are parents have come across Ewan and his magical sleeping properties, but that sheep is a genius! I’d read about Ewan previously in Pregnancy and Birth magazine, but it wasn’t until the Mid-winter Mums and I were discussing newborn sleeping problems that he popped up again. After a surreal debate about Ewan and Simon the Seahorse (yes, this is what my life has become), I decided to give Ewan a go as Busby was refusing to sleep in her Moses basket and only wanted to sleep on Mummy for most of the night, which isn’t particularly conducive to a good nights sleep… I’ve signed up to the Amazon Family 3 month free trial, which includes the use of Amazon Prime – next day delivery! (It’s fabulous – I would fully recommend signing up to the trial) Ewan trekked across the snow-covered Downs and arrived at our house the next day.

For those of you reading this that don’t know what Ewan is, and just think I have gone mad; Ewan is a very soft sheep with a pink light in the middle of him. His four legs have different “pink noise” sounds that play for about 15-20 minutes to help a baby get to sleep on their own. He is supposed to simulate a womb-like environment to make a baby feel safe and happy in their Moses basket/cot.

Ewan did not work the first night, and by morning Nick and I were feeling disheartened with him. We had expected miracles, and he had not delivered on the sleep we deserved. I decided that we should not give up on Ewan and his musical womb legs, and suggested we try another leg (as had gone with the “pure womb” sound the night before), so we chose the “sounds of the sea leg” as Busby had spent the first 9 months of her existence living by the sea. To our joy and elation this leg worked, and has been working ever since! Busby hasn’t slept on me now for three nights, and gets herself off to sleep with him playing next to her. I am feeling much happier and more refreshed from the better quality of sleep I’ve been getting!

Busby and Ewan

I honestly can’t stop ranting and raving about Ewan the (Magical) Dream Sheep. I know we shouldn’t keep relying on him, but for the time being all parties are happy and that’s all we can hope and wish for!
