What’s in your changing bag? // Rachel from DinkyThinks

Welcome to this week’s “What’s in your changing bag?”; my weekly Tuesday feature where I ask one Yummy Mummy (or Daddy) to share the innermost secrets of their changing bag, and the five items they couldn’t possibly live without!

This week I’m joined by Rachel from Dinky Thinks. Rachel is a first-time Mutti, and had her gorgeous little boy a few days after Busby was born. Oh, and you can see from the photo below that Rachel could easily be one of the Middleton girls!

So Rachel, can you start off by telling us a little bit about yourself?
Hi I’m Rachel, and I am Mummy to 4 month old baby Albie who was born on Christmas Day 2012. I am a belly dancer in recess, and you can mostly find me reading, cooking or crafting. Albie can be found giggling and kicking a lot, but not rolling over or sleeping much.

A belly dancer? Intriguing!
As a new Mummy, what would you say is your favourite thing about being a Mutti?
When Albie smiles his little lopsided smile at me and my heart melts.

Bless him!
What would you say is the hardest thing about being a Mutti?
At the moment it’s my obsession with sleep: my lack of it, and whether Albie is having enough of it! I never thought it would be on my mind so much!  Having a bad night with little sleep can have such an impact on my state of mind the next day. I suspect (hope) this will improve soon…

Eek! So, other than sleep-obsessed, what three words would you use to describe Motherhood?
Exhausting, delicious, life-changing.

Delicious is a great one! Babies are so scrummy!
Finally, how do you preserve/maintain your sense of self?
Every Tuesday I drop Albie at his Grandparents, and I head off for a swim, lunch and a spot of shopping.

Seriously? That must be bliss!
Right, so down to business: what make is your changing bag?

It is Skip Hop Duo Deluxe… recently purchased to replace a second hand bag which was on its last legs.

So, what are the five items in your changing bag that you just can’t live without?

1. Fishy Kisses. This is Albie’s favourite toy when out and about, because it gives him kisses and swims past his face.

2. A Novel. I love to read… At the moment it takes me on average two months to read a book; it used to be a week!
3. Umbrella. I live in Yorkshire… enough said.
4. Diary and Cath Kidston Pencil Case. I lost my mum when I was 11 and have had her diaries to read, one of which was about my first year in the world; I would love Albie to have something similar to read
5. Rituals Stress Relief Balm ‘Qi’. Just because, sometimes, being a mum is stressful!

The diary is such a beautiful idea! Thanks for sharing the contents of your changing bag with us, Rachel. You can find Rachel’s wonderful blog here. Rachel also tweets as @DinkyThinks.
