Guest Post: hello DODO

This week is Make, Do and Push! Mash-up week, as I’m on holiday (hopefully) relaxing! I’ve asked some lovely, talented, fellow bloggers to write guest posts with the theme “Seaside”, as I’m holidaying by the sea.

Next up on the Make, Do and Push! mash-up week are Ali and Jam, also known as hello DODO. I asked hello DODO if they’d be interested in doing a guest post as I love their prints (we have a few dotted around the house!) and they’re fellow Brightonians! I hope you love them as much as I do! So without further ado, I introduce you to Ali and Jam.

Hello! We are hello DODO the playful printmakers. We are Ali and Jam a creative couple based by the seaside in Brighton. We taught ourselves to screen-print in our teeny little flat in 2011, and ever since then have been creating fun original designs. We make screen printed artwork and tote bags, mini relief prints, and a fun greetings card range. Our aim with all our products is to make people smile!

Living by the seaside has been a massive influence on our work; the area is filled with visual inspiration, and many of our ideas have originated sat on Brighton beach scribbling in our sketchbooks as the waves crash on the pebbles.

Brighton is a wonderful vibrant place to live, from the colourful little beach huts along the seafront to the extravagant shop fronts and graffiti in the North Laine. We like to use bright, bold colours in our work, and love to think that these help ‘Brighton Up Your Day’!

We both share a silly sense of humor, passion for playful typography, and love a good animal pun. Quite often our work includes a little graphic twist for people to have fun and interact with.

Living near the sea, the seagulls make everyday entertaining. Whether they are swooping down to steal one of your chips on the beach, or simply looking awesome flying about near the West Pier at sunset. Brighton just would not be the same without these cheeky guys.

We’ve recently launched some brand new screen prints inspired by our love of animals and funny wordplay. They were great fun to design and handprint. We spent lots of time getting their facial expressions just right, and you can’t beat the feeling of seeing them hand printed for the first time.
