I considered a number of candidates for my bridal party, but had decided upon the line-up before I was even engaged. I must admit there has been some to-ing and fro-ing in my mind, but all candidates have been asked and have accepted.
Joining my female bridesmaid Zoe, and Busby the flower girl, is my male friend of 10 years, Mog. Yes male friend, and no, he’s not gay (if I had £1 for every person who has asked me that so far).
So why have I decided to break tradition and chosen to have a man in my Bridal party?
Well, firstly, he’s one of my best friends. He’s been there through thick and thin; questionable boyfriends, sad times, hilarious moments. Not asking him would have felt wrong, my Bridal party incomplete.

Secondly, I get on far better with men than I do women. I always know where I stand. I like that! He’ll tell me if my make-up is too much, my hair too coiffed, my bum too big.
Thirdly, I’m not “normal”. Never have been, never will be. Therefore I don’t really want a “normal”, run of the mill wedding. I’m looking forward to breaking a few traditions, and having a man in my Bridal party is a good way to begin.
Finally, if I’ve learnt anything from wedding planning so far, it’s that a wedding should be about what you both want from your big day. If you want a man in your Bridal party, or a female as a Groomsman then go for it; to Hell with the disapproving looks from older relatives!
Did you have a male friend in your Bridal party? Or vice versa? Let me know!
