For me, Christmas starts on 1st December. In fact, if I can get away with listening to Christmas music before December then I will. It is my favourite, and the most wonderful, time of the year.
I love everything about Christmas, especially the lead up to it; from the cheesy songs, to the Christmas present wrapping, to the delicious food. Oh, the delicious food…
Last Christmas (I gave you my heart – sorry!) I was heavily pregnant with Busby. My due date was 12th December, and I had been not-so secretly hoping that she would come on (or before) her due date, as I was missing out on the amazing run up to Christmas. I wasn’t allowed to eat smoked salmon, let alone over-indulge on it. Brie? Out of the question! Patê? Not on your nelly! And mulled wine? The glorious, bubbling substance was severely missing from our kitchen hob.
Whale-y, exhausted me!
Five days prior to my due date I could be found on a chair, decorating the Christmas Tree, with Nick hovering underneath, ready to catch me if I lost my balance. I was determined to enjoy the run up – even though I was the size of a whale and couldn’t eat (or drink) half of what I wanted. I needed the house to be perfect, even though our daughter wouldn’t appreciate it, I needed it to be so. Pregnancy hormones, eh?
Busby didn’t actually arrive until 20th December, but I was able to indulge in smoked salmon on Christmas Day morning and a couple of glasses of champagne during the day itself.
This year is going to be so different. I’m not planning on being pregnant for one thing! It’s going to be Busby’s first “real” Christmas, as last year she was only five days old, so this year she may have more of an idea of what’s going on.
I’m going to decorate the Christmas Tree with a glass of mulled wine in my hand, and talk my daughter through the various decorations, as the majority of them have sentimental value. I buy a new decoration every single year to add to our collection.
I love this owl bauble!
And this fox is so cute. Busby will love it!
I’m going to EAT, DRINK and be EVER-SO MERRY! If I can get away with eating smoked salmon, brie and patê every day then I will. (Please note the wedding diet is going to start post-Christmas!)
I came across some amazing cheeses at the Tesco Christmas in July event earlier this year:
Christmas 2013 is going to be the best Christmas so far; I can’t wait to start our own traditions as a new family of three. The traditions are still to be decided, but I’m sure there will be a carrot for Rudolph somewhere in the mix!
