Jeeves of the Dump

Saturday was a fantastic day in terms of finding furniture for our house!

Mutti and I headed to the vintage pop-up fair in Brighton where we found a new (but old) chest of drawers/tall boy to replace the very broken IKEA one in our bedroom – hoorah! Isn’t it beautiful? It’s a refurbished 1940s piece with the original mirror in the top. It looks wonderful in our bedroom; it really makes me smile.

Nick and I then took the IKEA drawers down to the tip, when lo and behold I came across a bureau! I’ve always wanted a bureau so I asked one of the tip workers how much they wanted for it… “£3” was his response… “Pardon?!” was mine and the bureau was purchased without another thought.

Isn’t it fab? Everything looks original – I’m going to guess 1940s – and look at the gorgeous key! I plan to go all Kirstie Allsopp on it in the near future; strip it, sand it and paint it up to make it even more beautiful.

I’m still in shock that it was only £3!!

£3 for a bureau – it would’ve been rude not to at that price! I had a bureau as my ‘desk’ when I was growing up and I loved it. All the cubby holes and drawers – and being able to shut the lid on the mess. Fab!

That bureau is the most amazing bargain ever! I wish our local tip sold things, I have to hold myself back from asking for things that people are removing from their boots!
