Family // Moving on up…North

A few weeks ago I may have hinted that big changes were ahoy… well, since the wedding is now over and our Honeymoon has been well and truly consumed (man, it was gooood), and Nick’s notice has been handed in, I am now at liberty to divulge our news!
moving to yorkshire
We are moving.

Quite the distance in fact.

Out of Sussex.

To the North of England.

Yorkshire to be exact.

It’s something we’ve always talked about.

Something we’ve always thought we’d do. Eventually.

And now the time has come to make the move; Nick has a new job in East Yorkshire!

We’re moving in with the In-Laws initially, so we have time to scout the area and look for a house to buy. Our very own house! No more renting damp houses for ludicrous amounts of money per month! Space! Our own walls to paint… or knock down! All the room for our future brood and weekend guests!

An actual garden!

We’re saying “goodbye” to the South East at the end of November, which seems to be coming around very quickly.

It’s going to be sad; barring my three years at University I’ve always lived in Sussex. I’ve got so many happy memories down here; not least our wedding a mere four weeks ago! My family live down here. A lot of my friends live down here. But it’s for the best, and the positives for moving are numerous and incredibly exciting! Plus we can come and visit (and vice versa) – it’s not like we’re moving to New Zealand!

I might have to wear a few more jumpers during winter.

I might have to give Busby secret elocution lessons at night to teach her the proper way of saying “grass” and “bath”.

I might will definitely need to learn to drive.

But I can’t wait to live in such an exciting, home-grown, local-loving county!

Yorkshire Bloggers – I hope you’ll accept this Sussex-born into “Gods own country”! If you require something in return, I think Busby might turn out to be a fine cricket player in the future…

Yay! How exciting! Any particular bit of Yorkshire in mind? It is so beautiful up here, and yes, living cost is such a huge factor isn’t it. A thousand good lucks with the move, hope it all goes smoothly. Congratulations!

We’re looking at East Yorkshire. Beverley seems lovely, as does Walkington, but we want to spend some time looking into schools and areas, as this is going to be our home for the next 10-15 years, if not our forever home 🙂 xx

Ooh, West Yorkshire native here! When we were looking for houses we had a little look at what we could afford if we went up north…and it was enough to make you weep 🙂 Tim’s work is all based down here, so that’s where we’ll be staying. But sometimes I miss the home county 🙂 Best of luck with the move – very exciting!

    oh wow weee how exciting!!
I too left Sussex for the first time five years ago (only to essex but still), and it’s so scary. But moving in with family will help, I’m sure you’ll make new friends soon enough. Learning to drive will change your life, I would love to move further that way, seems a much better way of life. Owing a home will only ever be a dream here but could be a reality elsewhere. Good luck with your new adventures and I look forward to updates x

How wonderful for you guys to be living your dream! I’m feeling disproportionately sad about you moving away (given that we never got round to having that cup of tea!) but really looking forward to seeing all your Yorkshire adventures 🙂 I’m also using this as the perfect excuse to look at houses in Yorkshire on Rightmove (my guilty pleasure) xxx

Oh my god – now I want to move to Yorkshire!! There are some seriously stunning houses for sale (high ceilings and country kitchens galore – SWOON) and we could get a 10 bed house for the price of ours in Lewes!!! Enough to move all of our friends up there with us :p xxx

Very exciting indeed! Yorkshire is amazing – I visited often when I was at uni in Durham. It’ll be an amazing place to raise Busby, I’m sure.
Oh and I am *so* glad I’m not the only one who can’t drive. That is all!

We moved north 11 years ago. Apart from being career-ending, the damp and the kids growing up with odd accents, it’s been great. Good luck.

All the very best with the move. I did similar last year and packed up and moved to the West Country after spending all my 42 years in Surrey and Berkshire! I do miss ‘home’ but I also love it down here. The people are lovely and it is a better pace of life. Thank you for linking to PoCoLo 🙂 x

How exciting! I’m going to be very jealous of all the playing-in-the-garden pictures that I’m sure you’ll be posting. London life doesn’t allow for much in the way of gardening. We have a ‘balcony’ that sticks out about three inches… Good luck with the move, the house hunt and the in-laws!

We are on the move too, although only down the road, but finally getting a garden and 4 bedrooms instead of 2 so a craft/office, best bit is there is a a kitchen big enough for a dishwasher 😉

    Good luck with everything!

(also had no idea you didn’t drive too-I’m starting to run out of excuses now)!

oh how fantastic! I wondered what the ‘big reveal’ was all about! I relocated over ten years ago now and never looked back. Me and my family love the Devon life, which is such a contrast to the city centre life the chap and I had when we met. I wish you all the best with your move and enjoy settling into your new lives up North
