Review // Tai Hair & Beauty, Hove
There aren’t many opportunities in Motherhood where you have to sit still for three hours, read magazines and drink peppermint tea. In fact, I’m not sure I can think of any… so when I was asked whether I’d be interested in having my hair cut and coloured at Tai Hair & Beauty in Hove I (obviously) nodded profusely.
The salon is on Blatchington Road in Hove; there’s a bus stop almost outside, which is very handy, and it’s near George Street (which is fab for bargain hunting in its many charity shops!) Inside the salon is amazing, with its own colour bar and mini-café, serving everything from cordial to barista-style coffee.
I was shown straight to my seat when I arrived and offered a stack of magazines (which the salon donates to the NHS once read), and a drink. My stylist, Ella, then sat down with me and we talked about the colours I’d like to try and what sort of cut I was after. I explained that as a Mama, I find it difficult to maintain the upkeep of a complicated do, so I’d like to stick with my regular bob and fringe combo. We decided to jazz it up somewhat with a steeper slant from the back of my head to the front of my face.
After the consultation, Ella applied the colour (red-brown low lights and a dark brown all-over colour) and I was told to sit still, read magazines and enjoy the novelty of not having to run after a toddler. The colour then took one hour to “cook”, so I made my way through a fair amount of magazines – catching up on the latest gossip (Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Martin???!).
Once the hour was up I was taken over to the washing area and Ella switched on the massage chair. Bliss! I’d love one of those at home! She gave me a mini-head massage which was rather gorgeous, and used lots of yummy-smelling products.
Then followed the cut and blow-dry. Ella took lots of care getting the length right, and making sure everything was how I wanted it. I was so pleased with the result! It’s the perfect style and colour for Winter!
Throughout my experience with Tai Hair & Beauty I felt very welcome and accommodated. I got through quite a lot of peppermint tea, and definitely felt myself relax in the salon. I’d certainly recommend Tai Hair & Beauty for anyone in the Brighton and Hove area looking for a welcoming, trendy salon with a great atmosphere. After my hair appointment I headed into Brighton for a spot of shopping (sans toddler) and picked her up the coolest Halloween t-shirt from H&M…because I can’t seem to go shopping without buying her something! I then power-walked down to the utterly amazing Pompoko to grab myself some lunch to munch on the bus home – it’s all about the chicken gyoza dumplings!
