The classic French recipes are written in both English and French, which is such a wonderful way to introduce another language into the house. Most of Nick’s side of the family can speak French, so this is something we’d like to encourage Busby to learn too.
The recipe book will be ideal for when Busby is a bit older, as all the recipes are a bit advanced for her at the moment, but we’ve had lots of fun looking at the pictures on each page and saying the French words for the illustrations. The recipes are slightly Americanised, and some of the French words we use in English, such as “aubergine” have been translated into American English, so “eggplant”.
Talking of the illustrations, they are beautiful! However I am sad that there are no photographs of the food itself, as I always find it useful when cooking to see what the finished product should look like.
The book would make a lovely gift for a family who are interested in French cooking and who enjoy visiting France. There are some gorgeous recipes inside, and I can’t wait to get cooking once we’ve moved into our new house!
