Review // Sip & Learn Wine Tasting (Box #2)
The Sip & Learn Wine Tasting box is a new monthly subscription box for wine lovers. Each month you receive two bottles of carefully selected wine, accompanied with a tasting booklet (which is more of a mini-magazine!).
The business is the brain-child of Marie-Anne, a marketing expert, and Sylvain, a wine expert, who decided that a monthly wine tasting box was a great idea for those who wanted to taste and learn more about wine from the comfort of their own home.
We reviewed Box #1 on the blog last month in this post here, and had lots of fun trying the beautiful white wines. I’ve found the perfect white wine for (post-pregnancy) summer evening drinking once the children are in bed!
Box #2 arrived a few weeks ago, and to my delight the box contained two delicious red wines. Now, I’m not the biggest white wine fan (in fact the two small glasses I had from the last box converted me to trying more once baby has arrived) but I do like my red wine! The box contained two bottles; a Burgundy and a Bordeaux.
We opened the Bordeaux (Listrac-Médoc, Château Reverdi, cru bourgeois) over dinner with friends a few weeks ago – we loved the sound of it as are huge Malbec fans, which this wine is similar to in taste. Our friends are not wine drinkers, especially not red wine, so they approached the glass with trepidation… and they loved it! In fact, they polished off the bottle! This is why I love the Sip & Learn boxes – they are a fantastic way to introduce friends and family to wine that they would never have drunk previously.
The second bottle, the Burgundy (Hautes-Côtes de Beaune, domaine Denis Carré) was a huge hit with my Mother-in-Law. One of my Brother-in-Laws lived out in France for a few years, so whenever Nick’s parents used to visit him they’d indulge in the local red wine – which was Beaune! I could see why she was so excited by the wine – it was delicious.
Each box is accompanied by a Sip & Learn tasting booklet, which if you’re interested in wine as we are, is a fascinating read. The booklet explains everything from how to taste wine, to what temperature to keep it at, and which food to eat with it. We all had a great time, sat around the dinner table, discussing the wine and reading through the book.
The Sip & Learn Wine Tasting Box costs £30, and would make an ideal gift for a loved one who is passionate about their wine. You can order your Sip & Learn Wine Tasting Box on the Sip & Learn website.
