Review // Santa’s Express Train Set from Hornby
Busby is a HUGE fan of trains, and living very close to a train station causes lots of daily excitement. We were very lucky to be sent a Santa’s Express Train Set by the legendary Hornby to review, and it has caused much joy and elation in our household (and not just from Busby!).
Santa’s Express comes with 1600mm by 1180mm oval track and mat, and would be the ideal size to fit around the bottom of the Christmas tree. I am not a particularly patient person, and I found the track quite fiddly and frustrating to put together – especially as the links have to be perfect for the train to work. It’s definitely not a job to do with small children around… although Indy was rather fascinated! I think I’ll be asking Nick to help me next time we want to build the track… and once the children are in bed!
Not only does Father Christmas get his own steam engine, his train also comes with two carriages: one wagon for the presents and one closed carriage for the reindeer. Busby has had great fun pointing out the different presents in the open wagon. The presents also come off the wagon, so you can add your own gifts or toys! The carriages link together automatically simply by reversing the train onto them, which has been the cause of much excitement for Nick!
Santa’s Express is powered by electricity, and has a separate control box with lots of different speed settings, and a switch which can make the train change direction. We’ve all had fun playing with Santa’s Express, and I can see it being a toy we bring out year after year as a Harding family tradition.
The Santa’s Express Train Set costs £69.99 and is available to buy now from all good toy retailers. You can also buy the set on the Hornby website.
