Family // FREE tennis for Great British Tennis Weekend! (#GBTW)

I’m working with the Lawn Tennis Association on their #GBTW campaign. Sign up for your FREE tennis activity here.

We may not be big fans of football, nor do we really get that excited about rugby… but one thing is for certain; we are a family of tennis lovers. Generations of our family (on both sides) have been playing tennis for years, and we love nothing more than tensely watching Wimbledon (and Queen’s… and Roland Garros… and the US Open…) together. My Mother-in-Law is infamous for her television shouting at pinnacle moments, my Husband occasionally joins in… and I rather enjoy the Pimms!

Why do we love tennis?

It’s exciting to watch. It’s fun to play. It’s fast-paced. It’s satisfying. It’s fantastic exercise! It’s a wonderful family activity for everyone – even if you’re not the best at playing it (that would be me and my horrendous un-coordination; although I am getting better, with confidence! Nick is a good coach.). Oh, and did I mention the Pimms?!

Busby has recently started showing an interest in playing tennis; we had lots of fun hitting the ball around in the garden with Nick’s racquet a couple of weeks ago (I featured a few photos from #MyWildOnes here), and because she has showed such promise and interest already, she’s now the proud owner of her very own mini-racquet – which is rather exciting! Wimbledon 2030 here we come!

She’s also rather enjoyed watching some matches with Nick’s mum and, as we were leaving the other day, imparted with a very enthusiastic exclamation of “Come on Andy Murray!” Proud smiles all round.

The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) have launched the Great British Tennis Weekend (#GBTW) this year to try and get everyone involved in the glorious game! The weekend is running over Saturday 16th July until Sunday 17th July 2016 at a tennis club near you, and the LTA are holding free sessions for anyone to go along and have a go! The sessions are country-wide, and I’m rather hoping that we might be able to get Busby along to a session while we’re staying down in Sussex.

Just click the link at the top of this post to find your nearest participating club, and please let me know if you sign up, as I’d love to hear how you get on!

Wimbledon fortnight is a huge thing for me here, though my family haven’t so far joined me. But my 8 year old is just starting to show an interest so I’m hopeful I’ll have a tennis buddy going forward. I think #GBTW is such a great idea to help kids get into the sport.

Getting tennis sessions for free really helps loads of families to discover the sport and encourage their children to play. It looks like your little one is really getting into it and I hope that you can get a spot for her when you are in Sussex! #GBTW is such a brilliant initiative.

It’s been so exciting watching the kids enjoyment of tennis grow over the last few months and they now love getting out to our local park and playing on the court there. The free sessions have been great for their confidence

We love tennis too, it’s such a great way to get out an exercise together as a family isn’t it?
