Interiors // (Finally) finishing our bedroom
Well, it’s only taken two years, but our bedroom is finally finished.
We went to IKEA a few weekends ago and bought a kingsize bed and mattress. It’s probably the best Christmas present we’ve EVER bought ourselves! Our previous bed had suffered badly from living in two damp houses, and then a stint in the garage, so the planks were not doing well… then with a mattress that had seen two pregnancies and a few house moves, and we had one noisy bed! I’m such a light sleeper, so that combined with anxiety and bouts of insomnia, and I was not sleeping well at all.
Now I’m sleeping like a log. It’s glorious.
Well, when H-Bear lets us…
We’ve also got rid of the boxes that were still stacked in the corner, so it’s feeling like our space now. I just want to paint our wardrobe doors, buy some new knobs for them, and fix the mirror on the wall, and then we really are done.
Getting the textures and colours right in our room to create the perfect atmosphere has been very important to me. It was one of the first rooms we painted in this house, and I knew I wanted a mixture of cosy and fun.
I opted for a navy statement wall, with the other walls white… and I added our fun Hello DODO print above the bed. I love the contrasting yellow with the navy.
I found navy blackout curtains in Next, which went with the statement wall (and block out the street lamp!). However, I wish I’d known about the Julian Charles website previously, as they have a great selection of curtains.
One of the things I’ve been enjoying most about the new bed is buying new bedding. I have a thing about bedding as it transpires.
I found some fab duvet sets in the John Lewis sale on Christmas Day. I’m rather fond of the Llama set that’s on the ASDA website at the moment… Although I’m wondering whether I should hold out for this gorgeous set when Cath Kidston have their next sale!?!
It’s become quite apparent that I love a creative project, so I wonder what will be next!
