What the Children Wore // The Essential One SS17
As a quick recap: With an extensive CV in children’s fashion, Managing Director Karen started The Essential One a few years ago to bring parents a sense of ease when choosing clothes for their newborns – with essentials only and super quick postage! Since then the brand has grown – introducing a maternity clothing range, and now this is her second season of childrenswear.
The children were sent a selection of clothes from The Essential One’s new spring/summer range, and the parcel had me waxing lyrical over on Instagram Stories that day (and ever since)!!
These photos were taken on Filey beach last week. I have a family shoot booked there in April, so I wanted to have a practice run with my own children, and seek out some lovely places for photos. We had to wait two hours for the tide to go out, so I was very glad to have found the rainbow beach huts, which kept both children entertained for a while before we could safely go onto the beach!
It’s an absolutely stunning beach (as they are in Yorkshire), and the children had a great time.
Busby was sent two dresses from the SS17 collection. The first dress is this beautiful Girls Blinky Bunny Cold Shoulder Polka Dot Dress (prices start at £22.99).
The dress is so colourful. I thought Busby blended into the beach huts rather well!
The print itself is very cute – with rabbits popping up from behind the polka dots:
The dress is made from 100% cotton and is the perfect ‘twirly’ dress!
It has cut out ‘cold’ shoulders, which I still can’t decide whether I’m a big fan of really, but they seem extremely popular this season. (She’s wearing a black t-shirt underneath as it’s March on a Yorkshire beach!)
It’s easy to move in, and is versatile enough to be worn for anything from a family party, to a picnic in the park.
I also think the layers underneath work with the dress too, and they mean that you don’t have to save it for warm days only.
Busby wears age 4-5 years, which is true to size and fits well.
The second dress is my favourite – and I honestly wish that this was made in my size, as I’d definitely wear it!!
So, where do I start with the Girls Blinky Bunny Embroidered Dress (from £24.99)?! Well, it’s yellow, which is my favourite colour! And it’s a gorgeous sunshine yellow that makes you happy just looking at it.
It has embroidered Dala horses on the top part of the dress… and beautiful embroidered flowers on the skirt. These little embroidered features make it so on trend with this season – both child and adult!
The red pompom trim that separates the bodice and the skirt is a wonderful contrast to the yellow, and pulls all of the colours together. The dress almost has a Spanish vibe to it, which has me hankering for warmer climates!
The dress is fully lined and made from 100% cotton, so will be nice a cool on warmer summer days. As with the polka dot dress above, it’s incredibly versatile and can be worn for any occasion.
Once again, Busby wears age 4-5 years, which fits perfectly.
H-Bear was sent a pair of Boys Finley Fox Twill Chino With Braces (from £18.99). Now, I don’t know about you, but I simply cannot resist a child in braces!
The chino/brace combo is just adorable! The braces simply hook onto the trousers with buttons, and can be adjusted to fit.
The chinos are a beautiful navy blue, and are so soft.
I love how versatile they are too – they look so cute and casual with just a tee, but could be smartened up with a shirt for a party.
H-Bear was also sent a Boys Finley Fox ‘Just Imagine’ T-Shirt (from £10.99), which is very cute.
The blue and white stripes make it ideal for the beach! And I love the little superhero characters!
He was also sent a Boys Finley Fox Print Sweatshirt (from £14.99).
Again, the print is adorable; covered in ‘Finley Fox’ and his superhero animal friends.
The sweatshirt is lightweight and 100% cotton, making it perfect as an additional layer for cooler summer days.
Every garment H-Bear is wearing in these photos is size 18-24 months, which fits well with a little room to grow.
I’ve fallen in love with The Essential One’s SS17 range (especially that yellow dress!) and I hope you have too – pop on over to The Essential One website for a peruse this naptime.
