Review // Persil Powergems
With two children who love chocolate ice cream (Busby), Marmite (H-Bear) and strawberries (both), we end up with our fair share of messy clothes! So I was strangely excited to receive a tub of new Persil Powergems, which have just launched in the UK, to put to the test.
The team at Persil claim that Powergems “offer a revolutionary and unique laundry experience”, with ten years of research contributing towards this “game changing detergent”. Instead of your regular powder, liquid or even tablet, the Powergems come in a (yup, you guessed it) gem format, which provide triple action power for stain removal, care and long lasting freshness in a small concentrated dose.
The gems contain 100% active ingredients, which disperse in your drum throughout the entire wash cycle.
I’ve been using them in my bedding washes over the weekend, but I put them to the ultimate test yesterday on my white wash. Busby absolutely covered herself in strawberry juice, ketchup and anything else she could find at the BBQ we attended on Saturday – as well as spending a good 30 minutes crawling around the garden pretending to be one of the dogs. So her brand new white t-shirt was fairly filthy… Ordinarily I would pop a pot of stain remover in the drum with our regular washing liquid and fabric conditioner, but this time I crossed all my fingers and prayed that the Powergems would be enough to remove the fairly deep stains.
Did they work?
Yes! The stains haven’t completely gone, but I would say it’s achieved the same result as the stain remover we normally use.
The rest of our washing smells so good too, and there isn’t that hardness you often get with using Bio detergent.
The Persil Powergems are available in both Bio and Non Bio, in packs of 12 washes (£5 RRP), 19 washes (£8 RRP) and 30 washes (£11 RRP), and are available to buy from retailers now. I will definitely be buying these again as they cut out the need for an additional stain remover, making laundry more fuss free. I also love the smell, which is said to give out bursts of fragrance when you move. How perfect will the Persil Powergems be for school uniform cleaning come September?!
