I am enthralled by the exciting Mum Boss revolution that is currently underway. So many of us seem to be shunning our conventional 9-5 jobs, and setting up shop to make, to sell, to manage, to create; all to be able to work around our children. I think it’s absolutely amazing how innovative each and everyone of us is, and Instagram is such a fantastic place to witness this remarkable change in our society.
Mary set up her new childrenswear brand Bear & Babe earlier this year, although she’s been making clothes for her own two children for a while now. She has been a Nanny for ten years, but it’s not a job that works particularly well around her own children, and she spends her time feeling very torn.
However, after listening to the amazing Jenny from KyNa Boutique talk about setting up a business at a Mama Social event (Sheffield’s mum networking playgroup), and following lots of compliments from friends and other parents about the clothes she makes for her two children, she decided that she would launch her own childrenswear brand. And although it’s still in the early days, she’s doing a wonderful job – with orders coming in despite not having a finished website yet (you can buy from her Etsy shop – link at the end of the post). Her Husband is in marketing, and has apparently been a big help in that side of things!
The Bear & Babe ethos is very simple – handmade, colourful, fun, stylish garments that are as individual as your children, whilst being soft and easy to wear. Mary chooses fabrics and designs that children would love, as well as parents. The majority of their clothes are gender neutral because they don’t believe colours are gender specific. Hurrah!
Busby and H-Bear were very kindly sent a couple of different outfits from Bear & Babe, and I’ve decided to showcase them as a two-part feature. Mary must understand my penchant with twinning my two, as both outfits are co-ordinating: #TwinningisWinning after all. [Read more…]
