Feature and Review: Taylor Made Beauty, Brighton

I’ve been visiting Michelle Taylor, owner of Taylor Made Beauty, for almost three years now; following her from her original base in the centre of Brighton to her current treatment room in Kemp Town Village. This is a testimony to how fabulous and friendly she is!

Six weeks on from having Busby, my skin had been starting to suffer from the various hormonal changes I’d endured, and my hands were dry and cracked from the constant hand-washing I now embark upon as a Mutti, so I booked an appointment with Michelle for a facial, manicure and eyebrow wax (my neglected eyebrows had turned into furry caterpillars). Michelle has a beautiful, ambient treatment room below Zars Hairdressers in Kemp Town Village, which she has decorated herself.

Dermalogica Facial (1 hour): £35
Firstly, even during my pregnancy I visited Taylor Made Beauty for facials. The Dermalogica products are plant based (free from mineral oils, colourings, lanolin and formaldehyde), and are gentle and safe to use – even for pregnant ladies. They are also soap free and acid balanced, minimising breakouts – so fantastic for hormonal skin! The facial lasts an hour and is beyond blissful! As well as concentrating on your face, Michelle also integrates a shoulder and neck massage into the treatment. Perfect for tired, worried mummies, or if you’ve had a stressful day at work! I left glowing!

OPI Classic Manicure: £23.50*
Recently I’ve found that my hands have been very dry and cracked from the constant hand-washing. My cuticles have also suffered from this endless exposure to anti-bacterial soap, hand gel and hard water. Michelle begins the treatment with a nail trim and file, and then your hands are left to soak for 5-10 minutes, followed by a heavenly hand massage. She has a large range of OPI nail varnishes to choose from; I went with coral as it’s my favourite nail colour at the moment!  Days later and my hands are still smooth from the moisturising element of the manicure (despite the hand washing), and my nails look fabulous; Busby loves watching my brightly coloured nails!

You will find a price list for treatments on the Taylor Made Beauty website, along with contact details and information on how to find the treatment room. She offers NHS staff 20% off all treatments (Please let her know previous to appointment and show her your NHS card when paying). Michelle has monthly special offers for her customers which she posts on her Facebook page, so please “like her” for regular updates. And good news chaps – she also does treatments especially for men too!
