Thank you Mutti

Today is my first Mother's Day and I have had a fabulous day! It didn't start off well... Busby was awake at 4.30am and didn't particularly want to go back to sleep, but Nick kindly took her downstairs so I could have a lie in. I was woken up with a lovely cup of tea and Busby grasping a card! Nick then made some scrummy pancakes with maple syrup and streaky bacon, which was washed down with a yummy glass of Moët. I also received a beautiful basket of flowers. It should be Mother's Day more often!
My First Mother's Day!
I think it's only when you become a Mutti yourself, that you truly appreciate how much our own parents have done for us; how much effort, love, worry, pain, sleeplessness (the list is endless) they've experienced for the benefit of our well-being.

Being a new mummy, I see how hard it must have been for my own Mutti to bring us up on her own after my Father sadly passed away 13 years ago. Pre-Busby I never really dwelled on how she must have felt not having someone there with her, supporting herThe daily struggle with a 12 year old and a 10 year old, whilst dealing with the grief of losing the man she loved.  How difficult it must have been during our teenage years being screamed at, and not having anyone to turn to, to rub her shoulders after an awkward-child/teen day, to run her a bath and pour her a glass of wine after a shouting-match. How worrying and heart-breaking it must have been to experience my brother and I's breakdowns, and not be able to take that hurt and frustration out on anyone but herself. Even how sad it must be at times when she has wanted (and wants) to share our achievements and success with him. It's only now that I have become a fellow mother, that I realise how awful it must have been for her (and still is), even in the most positive of situations. So thank you Mutti: Thank you for all the love, the support and assistance over the past 25 years of my life, and in particular the last 13. I don't know how you've done it! I love you.
Happy Mother's Day to all the lovely Muttis out there. I hope you've all been thoroughly spoilt; we deserve today!

Please feel free to leave your blog address so I can have a gander with a cup of tea (or mug of gin, depending on the time of day...)
