What’s in your changing bag? // Lou aka @LJWTweets

Hello! And welcome to the next instalment of my weekly Tuesday feature “What’s in your changing bag?”, where I ask one Yummy Mummy (or Daddy) to share the innermost secrets of their changing bag, and the five items they couldn’t possibly live without! 

This week I asked fabulous, fellow new Mutti Lou “What’s in your changing bag?” 

Ok Lou, tell us a little bit about yourself:
Hi I’m Lou – I live in Rugby with my husband Dave, cat Stanley, and our new addition baby Alex! Alexander (Alex) was born on 26th January this year. Pre-baby, my life was all about my job in advertising, and renovating a run down 1920’s house.

Pre-baby renovating sounds fun! So now that Alex has arrived, what is your favourite thing about being his Mutti? 

I love all the special moments we have every single day – especially lifting Alex out of his cot when he’s all snuggly, sleepy and warm, and smelling his lovely baby smell.

What three words would you use to describe Motherhood?

Scary… Wonderful…and I really didn’t want to use this one, but…Exhausting!


But it is totally exhausting! 
How do you preserve/maintain your sense of self? 

I’m finding it difficult to preserve/maintain at the moment as Alex is still very demanding, and being mummy is an all-consuming task! I can’t remember what on earth I did all the time or thought about pre-baby. 
Getting out of the house as soon as we felt confident enough made a big difference to me, as for the first week I had cabin fever! Particularly as for the last week of my pregnancy I wasn’t allowed to drive or walk anywhere because of the snow! Now I love nothing more than strapping Alex into his pram and going off for long walks, or meeting friends for coffee; it makes me feel like some normality has been restored. And failing all of that, blow drying my hair and putting on some mascara usually does the trick!

So, lets get down to business! Firstly, your changing bag.
My changing bag is a Pacapod Napier. After being adamant that I didn’t want a ‘proper’ changing bag, my husband surprised me with the Pacapod for Christmas, and I LOVE it! It’s really excellent quality and has lots of compartments for all my bits and bobs; including 2 removable ‘pods’ for changing and feeding essentials. It is far more organised than I ever thought I would be as a mum!

Oh my word – I’m in love!!!
What are the five items in your changing bag that you just can’t live without?              

1. Hand knitted blanky: My mum knitted this for Alex and I just love it! It’s the softest wool, and is perfect for adding an extra layer when we are out and about. 

2. Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream: This was a handbag essential pre-baby for chapped lips and dry patches, and has quickly found its way into my changing bag. It’s handy for dabbing on Alexs bottom if it gets sore, and also for some dry skin he had on his face.
3. Lamaze Snail Rattle: I love this! The first time I showed it to Alex he was so excited he was sick!
4. Notebook & pen: I am still having to write down how often Alex is feeding and how much, otherwise I lose track! In fact, when my brain is fogged with sleep deprivation, I find myself needing to write reminders down more and more… Damn baby brain!
5. Photo book: When my husband went back to work after paternity leave he made this book for me with all the pictures we took during Alex’s first two weeks. It’s really special and includes the photos from when he was minutes old, his first visitors and first bath. I love to have it with me, and find myself looking at it constantly as he’s already changed so much!

    What a lovely idea for a blog series 🙂 Gorgeous changing bag, my current one matches my old pram but that is now for sale as i have a new one..one the hunt for a new one..or a very oversized handbag! x
