17 month sleep regression? (a.k.a flaming exhausted)

You may have noticed that things have been a little quiet here the past few days. I’ve launched The Little Geekery Company which has taken up a fair amount of my time – it’s all gone well so far and fingers crossed it continues!

Another reason why I’ve been quiet is because Busby has decided that sleep isn’t really her thing anymore. She has decided that she would much rather be sticking stickers on the kitchen floor, throwing a pompom in the air, and reading Five Minutes Peace at 4am.

Oh the irony.

We are both (understandably) exhausted. And I’ve been too shattered to use my brain, let alone write.

Please send tea!

I’ve racked my brains as to why a regular night time rave seems to be the flavour of the month:

She’s had six teeth come through in the last 3-4 weeks and is dribbling like crazy.

She has another cold. *shakes fist at Nursery germs*

Perhaps she enjoys listening to the dawn chorus and watching the sunrise with whichever parent she can hassle out of bed?

But finally, after talking to some fellow owners of 17 month olds, I have come to the conclusion that there must be a 17 month sleep regression phase. There must be.

So I beg ask you, fellow parents, how do we get through this? Is it like all of the other regressions and they’ll just “get over it”? Or do we have to make a change? Take the bars off the cot? Move to a duvet instead of a sleeping bag?

Forever in your debt,
A flaming exhausted,

This sleep regression hit us this month too shes nearly 17 months. One night we had 2 hours sleep total! Cue the concealer. However she got over it in about a week. I changed her bedtime routine a little bit. We have used cot duvet and pillow since she was about 13 months and it improved her sleep greatly. Hope you get more sleep soon 🙂

My children seem to be constantly ill so I’m not looking forward to when they actually start nursery! Little Man is now nearly 13 months and doesn’t sleep so I’m now dreading 17 months! x

Interesting. I don’t recall it being a thing among my March 12 mummies but we moved Effy into a bed at 17 months as we found out we were expecting Lowen and wanted the cot out if the picture… And with that came a few bad nights, I never attributed it to anything else.

My mantra? “This too shall pass”. My advice? Get strict and be consistent. And treat yourself to better coffee. Xx

Luca seems to have regressions every now and again too and I think I recall one at 17months but it’s all a bit of a blur really haha! He’s been in a bed for a long time now and it’s easier to get him to drift back off as quickly as possible as there are no obstacles like cot bars to contend with. Just remember it will get better eventually until another sleep regression. Oh the joys! Good luck though beautiful I hope your getting enough sleep very soon xxx
