Pregnant with a Peppercorn // 4 weeks pregnant

Wednesday 15th October 2014
My period is now four days late… I’ve taken three tests over the past few days and all have either been negative or have had a faint positive line. My period hasn’t been late in a long time, so I know something is going on.

I haven’t had a good nights sleep for over two weeks now (an early pregnancy symptom I suffered with when I was pregnant with Busby) and I’m craving lots of red meat. I’m also peeing a lot more than I usually do (TMI?), and my skin has been horrendous with spot outbreaks all over my back.

I’ve been suffering from cramps in my back and uterus area for five days – I don’t ever remember having these pains in early pregnancy with Busby, but then I think I’m aware of the pregnancy at least a week earlier than I was with her, and I probably put them down to endometriosis pain in 2012!

Most of all I am exhausted. To the bone exhausted. I feel totally drained and constantly craving a hot bath. Luckily Busby has just wanted snuggles since we’ve been home from Honeymoon, so we’ve been spending a lot of time cuddling on the sofa watching Sarah & Duck.

Fingers crossed I’ll have a definitive positive pregnancy test in the next few days – I read somewhere that the hCG in your body is lower if you’re having a boy, and therefore this doesn’t always show as a positive pregnancy test, so who knows! Alternatively, this could all be psychosomatic, and I’m just that desperate to be pregnant that my body is tricking itself into believing I am! I guess I’ll just have to be patient… a quality I don’t possess in abundance.

I had a positive pregnancy test today! Hurrah!
4 weeks pregnant
A wave of relief swept over me; I wasn’t going mad! I am actually pregnant! That was swiftly followed by overwhelming joy and an IM to Nick of a picture of the positive test… then came the many thoughts, including gems such as, “Why are we doing this again??” and “Remember the pain of childbirth, Hannah? Remember it??!” But overall, it’s pure elation! I picked up Busby and danced around the living room with her singing that she was going to be a big sister (I’m not sure she understood, but she looked very happy).

My due date is looking like 20th June 2015 at the moment, although I’d probably add another week or so onto that, but fingers crossed we’ll have a teeny, squishy newborn in our lives by the end of June/beginning of July next year! How exciting!

And now I understand why I ate so much black pudding on Honeymoon!
