What the Children Wore // Holly & Beau

As I sit here writing, the rain is pouring down outside my window, so I think it’s fair to say that April shower season is definitely upon us! How fortunate then, that the children were sent a brand new coat each at the beginning of the month, from the amazing Holly & Beau.

Brother and sister team, Jack and Fleur, founded Holly & Beau in July 2012 after they both graduated from university. The summer of 2012 was WET (I remember this well as I was pregnant with Busby and I was SO thankful that we didn’t have a hot summer!), and Jack and Fleur had begun to notice that children’s waterproofs at the time were very dull. So they decided to create a range that was fun and exciting, even on a rainy day – using magical colour changing technology!

Busby chose the amazing monster coat for herself:

I chose the robot print for H-Bear:

The coats are made from machine washable, showerproof, waterproof fabric which is very breathable and lightweight, making them ideal for spring and summer. They have a thin, soft lining (100% polyester). We took them on our trip to Bridlington beach a few weeks ago, and neither child complained about being cold – even with a chilly wind!

The coats can be folded away into the pouch at the back for easy transporting. They’re perfect for popping underneath the pushchair, or in the changing bag – especially when space is an issue.

Sadly (?) it didn’t rain on our trip to Bridlington, so we didn’t get to test out the colour changing magic much. The coats got splashed with sea water a few times, which excited both children:

After a lack of rain on our beach trip, we decided to put them to the test in the garden over the weekend instead! Nick got the hose out and the children had so much fun running underneath it (he even made some rainbows for us):

The colour changing element in these coats is fascinating for both child and parent; Busby kept running up to me to tell me all of the different colours her monsters were turning! Once they’ve dried out, the coats return to the normal white print… until they get wet again!

Busby wears age 5-6 years and H-Bear age 2 years. Both fit well, with room to grow, so I’d definitely recommend sizing up to get the most wear from the coats.

These awesome, magical colour changing coats cost £38.95 each, and the whole range can be found on the Holly & Beau website.
