I love discovering new childrenswear brands. I find it so exciting to watch amazingly creative parents start their businesses, and to follow them as they grow. Savannah & Skye is one of those new brands – and it’s one I will be waxing lyrical about to everyone I meet.
Abi launched Savannah & Skye (named after her two daughters) in June this year. After giving birth to her first daughter, she began to realise that the childrenswear on the high street didn’t really reflect her ideas about raising strong, independent children.
Abi wanted to create a range that was different from everything available. A range that was inspired by the beauty of nature, and that doesn’t conform to the gender stereotypes we so often (and frustratingly) see in childrenswear.
An Architect by trade, Abi wanted her range to be simple, elegant and excellent quality, which she has most definitely achieved.
All of the below garments are what I would consider ‘heirloom pieces’; clothes that might cost a little bit more than one would ordinarily spend, but that will stand the test of time (and adventure!) and will be able to be handed down through generations.
H-Bear was sent two pairs of dungarees from Savannah & Skye’s current range, and one pair from their gorgeous new denim range.
All of the dungarees are handmade by Abi, and their quality is outstanding. Life with a very active little person means that clothes get put through all sorts of situations: running, crawling, climbing, adventures through brambles, covered in mud, covered in food… I could go on! Savannah & Skye’s dungarees wash brilliantly and continue to look fantastic, wear after wear.
Their fit is perfection too. H-Bear is wearing age 18-24 months in these photos, and it’s like each pair were tailor-made for him. Plus, due to the poppers on the straps, they will last a little bit longer when he has an inevitable growth spurt. You can also turn and popper-up the bottoms during warmer weather. I think they’d look cute with a pair of tights and boots like this in winter too.
I’ll start with the denim dungarees as these are my favourite of the three.
Made from soft 100% cotton denim (derived from 100% GOTs certified organic yarn), these dungarees are absolutely divine and super soft.
The pouch-like pocket at the front of the dungarees has proved a huge hit with H-Bear on our walks. Although I think he might have mistaken it for Mary Poppins’ handbag in these photos!
The contrasting popper-covers add a quirky feel to the dungarees, I love the two different shades of denim used, and the green thread pulls the whole garment together beautifully.
The dungarees are ridiculously comfortable and the blue shade goes with pretty much everything in H-Bear’s wardrobe. The denim dungarees also come in red, which would be adorable for Christmas! Both shades are also completely unisex.
Prices start from £39 for the denim dungarees.
I will continue with Savannah & Skye’s woodland range. Now, I have to admit, that when I first saw these online I was hesitant; I’m not usually a big fan of large pictures on my childrenswear. But, when I put them on H-Bear I fell in love.
Yes, they’re a little bit different. But when they’re on, the scene is a lot more subtle and absolutely perfect for an amble in the woods/garden/park.
The dungarees are made from a linen and cotton blend (55% linen and 45% cotton), and once again seem very comfortable to wear. They come in four different colourways: blue, green, red and yellow.
The woodland motif on the front of the dungarees is designed and printed in the UK.
Prices start from £34 for the woodland dungarees.
The last dungarees are these gorgeous block green pair:
Once again made from a linen and cotton blend (55% linen and 45% cotton), they are perfect – and extremely comfortable – for exploring and adventures!
Also, how perfect will they be at Christmas time? I have a little red-striped tee to go underneath for our Christmas photos!
These beautiful, simple dungarees come in three different colourways: green (pictured), blue, and red. All are completely unisex.
Prices start from £32 for the block-colour dungarees.
I think you can probably guess from the tone of this post that I have fallen head over heels for Savannah & Skye’s wonderful childrenswear. The quality is fantastic and I have been blown away by the simple, yet stunning designs.
