I thought I’d write one of these for H-Bear, as I did for Busby yesterday, to document how he’s getting on at nursery.
As I type this, H-Bear is poorly and napping, and therefore off nursery. This is such a shame for many reasons – but mostly because he is really starting to love his time there!
It has taken a while for our youngest bear to get settled, which is unsurprising really, as it’s the first time he has been away from any of us at the same time. Nursery is his domain to be independent, which is incredibly daunting at any age – but especially at two when you love nothing more than spending your days safely chilling out with your Mummy!
Being in the earlier months of two, he was initially put in the toddler room, which he hated. He’s so used to being around older children; trying to keep up with them and everything they do. However, about a month ago he had an extra afternoon at nursery and they didn’t have many children in, so he went into the preschool room – and he’s been in there ever since!
And he is thriving.
Nick was chatting to H-Bear’s key worker the other day, and she couldn’t believe he isn’t three yet. His vocabulary has come on leaps and bounds since he started. His assessments show that he is advanced in Maths. And physically, he can keep up with most of the preschoolers.
He actually sits still for story time! Participates in group activities, and his social skills have improved too. Nursery was definitely the right decision for him.
One of the things I was most worried about with him starting nursery was his allergies. For those of you who are new to the blog, H-Bear suffers from CMPA and a soya allergy, so catering for him can be difficult.
He’s only had one allergy incident so far, when he got hold of another child’s food, but other than that he has been fine. And he actually eats food that isn’t just sausages and strawberries too! Hurrah! Apparently, fussiness is reserved for home…
