Ooh, it’s been a little while hasn’t it? Sorry about that… I’ve been off enjoying family time and having a little break from here. The break has been good, and now (well, on Wednesday when I have childcare again) I’m raring to go. I have lots of exciting things in the pipeline for Make, Do & Push! in 2018 and I hope you’ll continue to enjoy reading.
But first – did you have a lovely Christmas? What was the best thing you ate? What was your favourite present? And Happy New Year! Nick and I somehow (miraculously) survived until midnight – and the kids slept until 8am, so that was a great start to the new year!
I’ve been curating snippets of memories over the festive season to share on here, and I thought I’d create a little photo post to give you an idea of what our Christmas was like! I didn’t actually take many photos on Busby’s birthday, or Christmas Eve/Day itself, as I wanted to be present – rather than behind the camera, but I’ve captured some of the fun we’ve had in between – including Bertie’s first walk on Boxing Day.
Busby turned five on the Wednesday before Christmas, so we had a little tea party after school. I re-created her cake from her party at the weekend… it’s entirely dairy and soya free which meant H-Bear could enjoy it with us too (although he mostly loved the meringues).
We spent Christmas at my in-laws in West Yorkshire. Christmas Eve was glorious. We had a play in the garden during the day and then went to the carol service at the local church. The service was so wonderful and fun – and Busby was chosen to play the donkey! H-Bear is wearing Nick’s old OshKosh dungarees in these photos.
We took Bertie for his first walk on Boxing Day – and he had the best time! (Busby was exhausted by this point following her birthday week, two nativity performances and a Christmas party!)
Nick worked Wednesday and Thursday, and then was off Friday until the new year – so we’ve had lots of walks out with Bertie (and my new 24mm lens)!
Including his first trip to our favourite place in Hull – Thieving Harry’s – where he slept on my lap while I ate… which is unheard of.
On NYE, we headed to the Humber Foreshores for a wander. Nick has taken the children before, but I’d never been – it was gorgeous! I’ll definitely be catching the bus here for dog walks (and shoots) in the coming months.
On New Year’s Day, we headed to Withernsea to explore. The Yorkshire coast is amazing, but we usually go to Bridlington or Filey, so it was good to try further down the coast. We had a very chilly picnic on the rocks and almost got trapped by the tide, but the kids had a ball (I had a small heart attack)!
We still have one more week of school holidays ahead, and I’m looking forward to a few more adventures before everything returns to normal… Happy New Year again!
