We’ve been in our house for three years now, but it’s only really felt like home for the past 18 months. We moved in just before I gave birth to H-Bear, so we sorted out the ‘granny chic’ over a very rushed couple of months and then the house sat still. With no photographs, no art and no posters that would suggest a family lived there.
18 months ago, the PND and sleep deprivation fog lifted and I looked around astounded that we had lived in the house for such a long time and – other than the kids bedrooms – had not done anything to make it truly ‘ours’.
So along came the photos; integral to a family home. And then came the posters, pictures and art that help to make it more personal.
Posterlounge got in touch a few weeks ago and asked me to choose some pieces to finish off the house.
If you’ve not heard of Posterlounge before, it’s a fantastic website full to the BRIM with prints and images that can be turned into everything from posters to canvases. There is an incredible amount of choice and I spent ages browsing, looking for the perfect pieces to complete our house.
First I opted for a couple of posters for our family room:
I loved the ‘Throw kindness around like confetti’ print because something we teach the children is that you should always be kind, and above all else that kindness is the most important thing.
I also loved the ‘All good things are wild and free’ print because I thought it summed our family up pretty well (Mother of Explorers and all that. Plus H-Bear is my wild child and with Bertie now in the mix…!).
These prints are both 30 x 40cm size and fit perfectly into IKEA frames.
Next I chose a slightly bigger poster.
The ‘Do the things you love’ poster is size 40 x 60cm, and again, fits wonderfully into an IKEA frame!
I thought it worked well in our house as I’m so fortunate to run my own business (I truly love what I do) and we always encourage the children to be who they want to be and do the things they love.
Finally, I’ve been looking for the perfect canvas to go on our landing! We love sunflowers – and they featured heavily on our wedding day – so when I came across this Klimt canvas I knew it would be perfect.
The canvas is 70 x 70cm and is going to look wonderful up on the wall!
All of the prints arrived carefully packaged and I’ve been really impressed with the quality. Poster prices start from £6.90.
The Posterlounge website has a fantastic amount of choice online and I would definitely recommend having a browse if you’re looking for the perfect poster, print or canvas for your home.
