Family Life // How to make the most of your family weekend in London

London can be a great mini break option for the family, with plenty to keep everyone entertained and lots to do no matter the weather it can be the perfect place. With so much to do it can be hard to try and fit everything in, so it’s best to always go with a plan so you can make the most of your time there. Below are some tips on how to really make the most of your time so you can enjoy your family break in the big smoke!

Book a hotel close to your main activities

One way to make sure you make the most of your time is to book somewhere close by to where you need to be, so if the activities you’re planning to do are central, then it makes sense to try to book somewhere central too. This way you can save time travelling and make the most of your time in the city without having to worry about how you’re going to get back to your hotel. Being central also helps if you would like the option to go back to your hotel for a break during the day, as some of your party might need to rest their legs for a bit! This is also useful in case you want to drop off any shopping bags or belongings that aren’t needed. Hotels such as Amba Charing Cross can be great choices if you want to stay close to the major attractions.

Consider what the kids what to do

Whilst there will be plenty to plan in that the whole family will enjoy, taking some time to ask them if there’s anything they’d really like to do can help to make them feel involved in the planning. It also means you’re more likely to get them to be excited about seeing other attractions, by making sure everyone has had a say in what there is do during the weekend. There are some great kid friendly exhibitions at places such as The Natural History museum and the Science Museum so why not suggest some of these to see if it sparks some interest!

Pre – book tickets for attractions

This can save you time and money so it’s something really worth considering, especially if you have discovered there’s a show or exhibition you’d like to see as tickets can often sell out or increase in price closer to the time. Look online and book direct show tickets as they will often have the best deals available, so it’s worth taking some time to get this organised before you get to London. If you want to see a few things over the weekend then why not consider picking up a pass that allows you to see a few attractions, which can save you money and lets you pack in a bit more sightseeing. Perfect if you have some excited kids to keep entertained.

Choose uncommon activities

It’s likely that the usual attractions will be sold out or extremely busy so will take up a lot of your time whilst you’re in London. There are some unique experiences to be had in London including kayaking down the Thames or visiting unusual museums such as the Clowns Gallery Museum. Choosing something a little off the usual tourist track could save you time and help you to discover something new!
