We’re now five days into the Summer Holidays and already we’ve had a super jam-packed few days! Evidently we’re not a family who likes to sit still… from a trip to our favourite beach, to playdates with friends, to tennis camp, the holidays have been wonderful so far.
And how fantastic is the weather? It might be baking hot, but I’m so thankful that it’s not raining. We can go outside and explore without having to pack raincoats and emergency wellies (although I might require a fan to follow me around).
We have so much planned over the next six weeks! Including a visit to our favourite Pick-Your-Own/Farm Shop, a trip to London for Busby and I, a short stay in Sussex with my mum, and my birthday (29 again, of course). Obviously the exciting days will be punctuated by slower days at home; baking, watching films and no doubt a fair share of sibling bickering thrown in for good measure.
We kicked off our Summer Holiday adventures with a trip to Fraisthorpe beach on Sunday afternoon. We’ve done this for the past three weeks, as it’s been warm enough to swim in the sea. Who’d have thought that would ever happen in Yorkshire (especially for three weeks in a row!)? Definitely not me! It’s been absolutely glorious – and we’ve all slept so well afterwards.
This Sunday we had our new beach tent, a picnic full of goodies and our brand new Snapfish towel that I designed last week. ‘Life is better on a Yorkshire beach’ is a sentiment we fully believe in our family – with our regular Beach Sunday adventures!
The towel is huge – and definitely big enough to wrap two children in. Busby was fascinated by the towel: “It’s not printed on paper… how?? How did they put us on it?” (I assured her it was magic… or failing that, a special sort of printer than can print on fabric).
We all had a swim in the sea (including Bertie), built sandcastles and ate lots of delicious food. It was a great way to end the first weekend of the holidays.
I’ve also created these fab scrapbooks on the Snapfish website to record all of our adventures. I thought it would be such a lovely way to document what we get up to over the next six weeks. I intend to fill them full of photos (I love these square photos from Snapfish), cinema ticket stubs, train tickets and drawings/words by the children.
Busby is especially excited to get started on her scrapbook, and I can see her taking it into school to show everyone on her first day of Year 1 (when did that happen?!) in September!
All being well, this is our last summer as a family of four. The dynamics will be changing again with the arrival of Bun later this year and next summer will be even more of a juggle with two off school and a 7-8 month old to entertain! I’m trying to make the most of only having two children to contend with… and creating memories that we will talk about for years to come.
