Summer used to be one of my least favourite seasons, but since having children it’s swiftly rising in the rankings. This is because our summers now seem to be full with annual traditions. I’ve started planning our weekends way in advance so we can fit everything in; from our yearly visit to the lavender fields, where we take a picnic, which we eat amongst the bees buzzing in the beautiful purple flowers. To strawberry picking at The Balloon Tree (where we also go for pumpkin picking), followed by cake in their incredible café… and of course, a play in the playground.
Guess which one we did last weekend.
The Balloon Tree is in Gate Helmsey, near Dunnington and York. It’s a family-run farm shop and café, with an awesome playground and fields of Pick-Your-Own (PYO). The café and restaurant serve the most incredible, homemade and locally-sourced food (try the Wimbledon cake!) and we always have a wonderful time whenever we visit.
Anyway, this isn’t an ad, I took lots of lovely photos on our adventure so I wanted to share them, whilst also supporting one of our favourite local(ish) businesses. So here is our strawberry picking adventure:
It was Tabby’s first time at the PYO (I still can’t believe she was in my tummy this time last year!) and she had a great time when she realised she was surrounded by her favourite food… I promise it was only one!
Busby and H-Bear diligently picked two huge punnets full – and we’ve enjoyed them hugely during our playdate today!
Tabby’s outfit is from Cath Kidston, and was a present from my lovely Auntie (isn’t perfect for strawberry picking?).
I’m already looking forward to pumpkin picking in October!
