What’s in your changing bag? // Hannah from Thursday’s Child, Friday’s Thoughts

Hello and welcome to “What’s in your changing bag?”; my weekly Tuesday feature where I ask one Yummy Mummy (or Daddy) to share the innermost secrets of their changing bag, and the five items they couldn’t possibly live without!

This week I’m joined by lovely Hannah from Thursday’s Child, Friday’s Thoughts.

Hi Hannah! What a cute photo!
Please can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
I’m Hannah, mum to two March girlies – Effy, recently two, and Lowen, 10 weeks. I’d describe myself as a jack of all trades and a master of nothing, but when I’m not doing the day job you’ll find me behind the camera, crocheting and blogging.

Such gorgeous names!
What is your favourite thing about being a Mama?
My favourite thing about being a mummy is knowing that I made them. I know D had a little bit to do with it, but I grew them and for nine months I was all that they knew.

What would you say is the hardest thing about being a Mama?
The hardest thing about being a mummy is that my girls seem pretty good at simultaneously causing chaos. Lowen will always be sick just as the postman knocks on the door, and Effy decides that it’s a good time to get herself off the toilet, falling and bumping her head in the process. I guess it’s the lack on control in my life… Two people in my house that do as they will and not as I say a lot of the time!

Haha sounds very chaotic!
What three words would you use to describe Motherhood?
Astounding, testing, remarkable.

Wonderful choice.
How does you preserve/maintain your sense of self?
Routine is key in this household to ensuring that I still have my time to do my things, be it go out, go running, get an early night, crochet, edit photos, see my husband… whatever. The girls are in bed by 7:30 and that’s them for the night, and then I get my evening! That’s been my saving grace on the difficult days.

Routine is so important!
So, the last question before we find out about your changing bag; if you could share one piece of Motherhoodly wisdom with us all, what would it be?
Always remember “this too shall pass”. The best thing I was ever told.

Great advice.
It’s business time; what make is your changing bag?
My changing bag is the Storksak Tote in navy and orange.

Ooh lovely!
What are the five items in your changing bag that you just can’t live without?

1. Lucas Pawpaw ointment. It’s a product from down under and it’s bloody marvellous; like a natural Vaseline and useful for every eventuality including, but not limited to helping dry hands, sore bums, blisters, substitute lip balm, grazes and greasing up the spinning top in lieu of DW40.
2. Spare pants. For the newly potty trained toddler. They have the gruffalo on them. That makes them a hit.
3. A muslin. This brightly coloured on is from Mothercare and is great for the changing bag because a) It’s smaller than a normal muslin so takes up less space and b) it doesn’t get mixed up with other mummies’ muslins at a baby group due to its unusual colour.
4. My iPhone charger. I have one for my bag now as my battery is awful and my biggest nightmare is being stranded with two children and a dead phone.
5. Washable wipes. I always carry a few of these because now we’re full time clothing it at home I often forget to pack a packet of normal wipes. This way I can just whip out a dry wipe and dampen it under the tap and they’re always ready – and if I don’t need them, they don’t go musty in my bag!

Thanks for sharing the contents of your changing bag with us, Hannah! I love your wet bag - it’s so cute!

What’s in your changing bag? // Donna from Red Head Baby Led

Hello and welcome to “What’s in your changing bag?”; my weekly Tuesday feature where I ask one Yummy Mummy (or Daddy) to share the innermost secrets of their changing bag, and the five items they couldn’t possibly live without!

This week I’m joined by lovely Donna from Red Head Baby Led!

Hi Donna! What a lovely photo!
Please can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
Hi, I’m Donna, Mummy to Athena, 2 and Troy, 1. I’m still on maternity leave from my job as a bank manager so spend most of my time running around after the kids and blogging! I love my bed, Hollyoaks and all things chocolate!

Ooh, fellow Hollyoaks fan here (for my sins)!
What is your favourite thing about being a Mama?
The cuddles. There is nothing quite like having your child on your lap giving you a cuddle. It’s something that would be so easy to take for granted, yet every time Athena or Troy give me cuddles I really try to appreciate them - cuddles are the best!

Cuddles really are the best!
What would you say is the hardest thing about being a Mama?
When they’re both poorly at the same time and you can’t physically comfort them both. Having poorly children is awful anyway, but when they’re ill at the same time it’s just one whole step harder.

Gosh, that does sound difficult.
What three words would you use to describe Motherhood?
Amazing, rewarding and a privilege.

How does you preserve/maintain your sense of self?
Pretty much my whole life is now dedicated to being a Mummy, but everyone needs to have time to be them too. Blogging is my one hobby, the one real thing that I do for me and it helps to give me something that isn’t just about the kids. Going to blogging events also gives me ‘me time’ and helps me to talk to other bloggers and be myself for a while, rather than being Mummy!

So, the last question before we find out about your changing bag; if you could share one piece of Motherhoodly wisdom with us all, what would it be?
Trust your instincts. Everyone has a way of doing things and everyone will have advice. Listen to it and then do what you think is best.

Great advice!
It’s business time; what make is your changing bag?
JJ Cole Metra Change Bag.

Ooh - I’ve never heard of this brand before.
What are the five items in your changing bag that you just can’t live without?

Aside from nappies, wipes and nappy bags I can’t live without:
1. Snacks. They keep the children happy in every situation. Not just for the hunger factor but they’re a great boredom reliever too!
2. Spare clothes. Even with LP being nearly three and out of nappies we always have a spare set of clothes with us for her, as well as her brother - potty training accidents, mud or food!
3. Bibs. We often eat out at little notice and both children will happily eat with their hands but we always need bibs!
4. Calpol/Nurofen. A necessity when we’re going through teething hell.
5. LP’s toy dog. He comes everywhere with us!

Thanks for sharing the contents of your changing bag with us, Donna! I love the toy dog!

What’s in your changing bag? // Kate from Family Fever

Hello and welcome to “What’s in your changing bag?”; my weekly Tuesday feature where I ask one Yummy Mummy (or Daddy) to share the innermost secrets of their changing bag, and the five items they couldn’t possibly live without!

This week I’m joined by lovely Kate from Family Fever!

Hi Kate! What a fab photo!
Please can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
Hi, I’m Kate and I am mummy to Gemma who is 8, Jacob who is 6 and Max who is 11 months. I am a part time writer for Mumii and Pushchair Trader, and when I am not doing that, or blogging (or chasing a reluctant child into the bath), I am a lover of chocolate, a good book and music.

Haha wonderful! What a lovely brood you have!
What is your favourite thing about being a Mama?
I don’t think there is just one thing I could put my finger on, it’s the whole experience, watching your tiny helpless newborn grow and blossom into a walking, talking person with their own opinions and take on the world.

So true.
What would you say is the hardest thing about being a Mama?
The loss of identity. I sometimes forget who ‘me’ is – every day I am just “Mummy”, and you can forget about the person behind that persona.

What three words would you use to describe Motherhood?
Tough, rewarding and inspirational.

Great choice of words!
How does you preserve/maintain your sense of self?
Like I said before, I do find that hard, but I find the best way to rediscover ‘me’ is to have a chat with a friend – whether that is online, on the phone or in person, I think friends can remind you that you are not just Mummy, but a valued person in your own right.

So, the last question before we find out about your changing bag; if you could share one piece of Motherhoodly wisdom with us all, what would it be?
Don’t be fooled by the ‘perfect’ mummy – there is no such person. We all make mistakes, we all have days where we feel like hiding under the bed, but we are all doing the best we can – and that’s really all that matters.

Great advice!
It’s business time; what make is your changing bag?
I have a few, but my current favourite is a Pink Lining Not so Plain Jane bag in peppermint bows. I love it – it’s pretty without being too girly, and it is so practical too. Wipe clean, spacious and with lots of pockets!

Ooh it’s so pretty!
What are the five items in your changing bag that you just can’t live without?

1. Baby wipes. They are not just for bottoms! They come in handy for sticky hands and faces, cleaning clothes after a fall in a muddy puddle, wiping biscuit off the pushchair – the list is endless!
2. Nappies. I never ever leave the house without a handful of nappies. I did that once, thinking it would be fine as I was only popping down to the shop for 5 minutes. One explosive poo incident later, and I vowed never again to venture out without at least one nappy!
3. Muslins. Another multi purpose item, useful for mopping up baby sick, spilt drinks and leaking bottles, as well as coming in handy as a sunshade, changing mat and blanket.
4. Purse. You never know when you might need it – to buy bread and milk, ice-creams or an emergency nappy and sleepsuit if you have one of the aforementioned poo incidents.
5. Snacks. For me and the children. Nothing worse than being hungry lol.

Thanks for sharing the contents of your changing bag with us, Kate! I totally agree about needing snacks! Busby and I get very hangry…

What’s in your changing bag? // Baby Isabella from Dear Mummy

Hello and welcome to “What’s in your changing bag?”; my weekly Tuesday feature where I ask one Yummy Mummy (or Daddy) to share the innermost secrets of their changing bag, and the five items they couldn’t possibly live without!

This week I’m joined by Baby Isabella from Dear Mummy.

Hi Baby Isabella! What a lovely photo!
Please can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
Hello my name is Baby Isabella, I’m 13 months old and I am a baby blogger from Hampshire.
I blog about my travels with my mummy. We love the great outdoors so our changing bag must be practical, hence why my mummy and daddy opted for a rucksack that they can just throw on and go.

Welcome Baby Isabella - we’ve never had a baby chatting about their changing bag on this before!
What is your mummy’s favourite thing about being a Mama?
My mummy says, feeling complete and knowing that you are responsible for another persons life, it is VERY rewarding. Getting free cuddles.

Cuddles are the best.
What would your Mummy say is the hardest thing about being a Mama?
My Mummy says, at the beginning, sleepless nights… And not having her own time.

Yes that is very difficult.
What three words would your Mummy use to describe Motherhood?
Challenging, rewarding, life-affirming.

How does your Mummy preserve/maintain her sense of self?
My Mummy has ‘Date Nights’ with Daddy.

Lovely!
So, the last question before we find out about your changing bag; if your Mummy could share one piece of Motherhoodly wisdom with us all, what would it be?
My mummy says, try breast feeding if you can, it was one of the best experiences of her life. Keep going with it persistence pays off. Try baby wearing, and keep talking to other new mums, it helps you through the lows.

Excellent advice!
It’s business time; what make is your changing bag?

My changing bag is actually a funky rucksack that daddy chose from Sprayground; an urban fashion label. Who said changing your little one was dull?! Daddy didn’t want to walk around with a feminine flowery bag and Mummy agreed. Sprayground rucksacks have great pockets inside the rucksack perfect for changing mats, nappies and wipes. They are also big enough for pack lunches, flasks of hot water (to heat food and bottles on the go) spoons, bibs and a change of clothes. They also have small zip pockets for phones and car keys, easy access when you have a child in tow. A big net pocket inside the rucksack allows mummy to see items at a glance.

Excellent!
What are the five items in your changing bag that you just can’t live without?

1. Asda Little Angel size 4 nappies. Perfect and not bulky. We love these nappies and they are cheap! We’ve always used Asda nappies, and stick with a brand we know and trust.
2. Kiddicare/Morrisons Little Big Wipes. Great wipe dispenser, large unscented wipes and not too wet. Great for cleaning my little bottom and wiping my mouth after food (not at the same time!!)
3. Tommee Tippee Travel Bottle Warmer. The most practical thing my mummy has ever bought!! A flask for keeping hot water warm and a large plastic container that fits over it for plopping in your bottles and jars of baby food. Couldn’t travel without it, especially handy when in a field or in the middle of nowhere.
4. My food!! Hipp Organic jars and finger food is the order of the day.
5. My Turtle. He’s my best friend and he travels everywhere with me on ‘My Buggy Buddy’ clip! I love him.

Thanks for sharing the contents of your changing bag with us, Baby Isabella! The bottle warmer sounds fantastic - we’ll have to invest in one of those for the next time round.

What’s in your changing bag? // Vicki from EllieBearBabi

Hello and welcome to “What’s in your changing bag?”; my weekly Tuesday feature where I ask one Yummy Mummy (or Daddy) to share the innermost secrets of their changing bag, and the five items they couldn’t possibly live without!

Today I’m joined by Vicki from Ellie Bear Babi.

Hi Vicki - loving the wellies!
Please can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
My name is Vicki; Mummy to Mini who is 14 months born Jan 2013. Lover of all things Harry Potter, choccy, crafty and glittery related! SAHM, crafter of baby bits and other bobs, Staff Writer for Visit from the Stork, and Blogger.

Busy, busy, busy!
What is your favourite thing about being a Mama?
I love just being Mini’s mum! She is such a little crazy, happy, fun-loving little girl. I enjoy every moment with her, we have such a great time together everyday; be that getting out and about, or just loading the washing machine, she really lights up my life.. I can’t pinpoint a favourite thing just all of it… snot and all!

Fantastic!
What would you say is the hardest thing about being a Mama?
At times the lack of sleep. Currently we are in a good routine 6.30pm - 7 am, but sleep patterns can change. Gone are the days of lying in!

I hear you…
What three words would you use to describe Motherhood?
Unique, whirlwind, lovely.

Great words - it certainly is unique!
How do you preserve/maintain your sense of self?
Before having Mini I studied psychology and adult nursing, I then worked within the fields of learning disability and childcare, however, after having Mini I became a SAHM. People keep saying “you will lose yourself!” “You’re doing nothing with your life” etc, but honestly becoming a SAHM has freed me. I have never been more content and more assured of who I am than now. I blog as a hobby, as I enjoy writing, and through this I have met some amazing people. I also run my own little handmade craft company, Elliebearbabi, making baby bibs, blankets and other bits and bobs from Elliebearbabi HQ (aka my kitchen table). That gives me a little creative outlet.

Fabulous. It’s wonderful to have a creative outlet.
So, the last question before we find out about your changing bag; if you could share one piece of Motherhoodly wisdom with us all what would it be?
Trust in yourself. Don’t beat yourself up if things don’t always seem to go to plan. Just relax and enjoy each day.

Fantastic advice!
It’s business time; what make is your changing bag?
My current changing bag is a YippyDadda - Zebrax black, which I am currently reviewing and have fallen quite in love with, crazy print and all!

Gosh… that’s certainly a statement bag! Wowza!
What are the five items in your changing bag that you just can’t live without?

1. My personal planner. This little beauty keeps me and our family life organised! Without this I would never remember what day it is, never mind keep doctors appointments etc.
2. Bumble bee reusable bag. We have to pay for plastic bags now here in Northern Ireland in shops. This little guy fits perfectly into my bag taking up hardly any space, and is so handy for keeping everything from leaves and lego blocks, to change of clothes, or all important sneaky choccie bar purchases!
3. Heart bubbles. This little tube came in a party bag from a recent family event, and Mini has fallen head over heels with the bubbles it makes. I keep it in my bag for moments when she needs entertaining, like waiting for appointments etc
4. Two pink megablocks stacked. Mini is obsessed with blocks, and can easily spend 15 minutes happily playing with these two! Cannot go anywhere without them!
5. Finally Ella’s kitchen puffits. These are Mini’s version of choccie; she goes mad for them! One little packet has quite a lot in it, so handy for snacks throughout the day.

Thanks for sharing the contents of your changing bag with us, Vicki! I love your bumble bee bag!! We haven’t tried the Puffits yet, but will look out for those as I think Busby would enjoy them.

What’s in your changing bag? // Chantelle from Mama Mummy Mum

Hello and welcome to “What’s in your changing bag?”; my weekly Tuesday feature where I ask one Yummy Mummy (or Daddy) to share the innermost secrets of their changing bag, and the five items they couldn’t possibly live without!

Today I’m joined by Chantelle from Mama Mummy Mum.

Hi Chantelle -  gosh what a brood you have there!
Please can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
Hi everyone, I’m Chantelle. What can I tell you about me? Well I suppose first and foremost I’m a mum. I’m lucky enough to be able to stay at home and look after my four daughter’s: Elise, Freya, Gracie and Layla. I’m married to the lovely “Daddy Hazelden”. When he is not busy at work, he is busy playing on is beloved Xbox… I am sadly a call of duty widow! I’m addicted to social media, and when I’m not busy with the kids or blogging, you can find me curled up with my kindle in one hand and a glass of wine in the other!!!

That sounds like a perfect evening!
What is your favourite thing about being a Mama?
My most favourite thing about being a mum is that feeling of unconditional love that I get from my children. There kisses and cuddles are a magical cure to any sadness I’m ever feeling.

Beautiful.
What would you say is the hardest thing about being a Mama?
I guess the hardest thing about being a mummy is knowing that I can’t always make things better for them. Some situations will be out of my control and they will have to find solutions to their own problems, even if I want nothing more than to help them.

So true.
What three words would you use to describe Motherhood?

Hmm… just three words to describe motherhood? Challenging, emotional and rewarding.

So, the last question before we find out about your changing bag; how do you preserve/maintain your sense of self?

Honestly I don’t know if I do maintain my sense of self really, and I guess I’m fine with that. I’ve always said that I was made to be a mum and that is how I see myself at the moment… Thoughts of me are kind of pushed to the side for now.

It is very difficult to make time for yourself - but it sounds like you get downtime with your kindle and wine!
Well, it’s business time; what make is your changing bag?

I have to admit that I have quite a few changing bags but my changing bag of choice at the moment is my Pink Lining “Not So Plain Jane” in the purple dragonfly print.

Gorgeous! I love Pink Lining!
What are the five items in your changing bag that you just can’t live without?

1. Baby wipes. I have a packet of baby wipes in my changing bag and in my hand bag. They are handy for every situation, and I use them not only for my youngest daughter, but the older kids too.
2. Pooh Bear. We have two of these comforters; one for at home and one for when out and about… This is one thing that Layla will not live without.

3. iPhone. I did say I was a social media addict! My phone is like an extension of me and therefore an essential in my changing bag.

4. Snacks. You never know if you’ll end up out longer than planned, so it’s always worth having a few snacks in there just in case.
5. First aid kit. My kids are so accident prone! My 6 year old is known as “first aid Freya” because she is forever falling over, so it is always best to be prepared with plasters etc where my children are concerned!

Thanks for sharing the contents of your changing bag with us, Chantelle! The first aid kit is such a fab idea!

What’s in your changing bag? // Kelly from Raising Them

Hello and welcome to “What’s in your changing bag?”; my weekly Tuesday feature where I ask one Yummy Mummy (or Daddy) to share the innermost secrets of their changing bag, and the five items they couldn’t possibly live without!

Today I’m joined by Yorkshire lass, Kelly from Raising Them.

Hi Kelly - thanks for joining me this week on “What’s in your changing bag?”
Please can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
I’m Kelly. I’m a 27 year old mum to two, and wife to my One, residing in Yorkshire. I teach young adults with a broad range of complex learning difficulties and disabilities at a Further Education College. I am enjoying the last few weeks of maternity leave before returning to work part-time.

My son was born in June 2011 at 28 weeks gestation weighing 3lb 4oz. He has done remarkably well and is honestly a little miracle. He spent 7 weeks in special care before coming home…the most terrifying time of my life… but despite his eagerness to meet everyone he is totally healthy, and meeting all his ‘milestones’… *fist pump*

My daughter was born in July 2013… after a very straight forward but closely monitored pregnancy… at 38 weeks… phew!! Weighing 6lb 11oz… practically gargantuan!

Wonderful!
What is your favourite thing about being a Mama?
Ooooh that’s tricky to pick just one thing… Ummm… probably snuggles! Bedtime snuggles… random 4pm exhausted in front of Cbeebies snuggles… Sunday morning bed snuggles… feeding snuggles… I guess the list of potential snuggle time is endless. It’s the comforting warmth and being able to absorb yourself in your little ones smell… just heaven!

I completely agree.
What would you say is the hardest thing about being a Mama?
I’ve got two… the first is the fact that the world I have brought my children in to isn’t always as nice as I would like. The other is knowing one day I’ll have empty arms and my babies won’t need me anymore. I shall be joining the WI, and growing massive marrows when this happens… I’m prepared.

Haha!
What three words would you use to describe Motherhood?
Beautiful. Intense. Hilarious.

Great choice of words.
How do you preserve/maintain your sense of self?
With great difficulty! It’s definitely something I have to make a mental note to myself to do… both my babes have a really good bedtime routine so the evenings belong to my husband and I at least. I can use this time to write my blog, or have a bath, or whatever I need to find ‘me’ again. Honestly… sometimes a brew and ‘a piece’ of chocolate is all it takes!

So, the last question before we find out about your changing bag; if you could share one piece of Motherhoodly wisdom with us all what would it be?
Definitely follow your instincts and trust that your body knows what it needs to do. Human-beings are pretty weird, and although we like to think we rule the planet… at the end of the day when it comes to pregnancy, childbirth and those early days, weeks and months… we are just animals doing the same thing we have done since the beginning of our existence… phhhhhfffttt… pretty deep.

Totally! Great advice!
Well, it’s business time. What make is your changing bag?

Cath Kidston: Oil Cloth with Cowboy print… this little beauty is 2 years and 8 months old, and was bought for me by my sister in law while we were in hospital.

Ooh it’s gorgeous!
What are the five items in your changing bag that you just can’t live without?

1. Dettol wipes: I think my love for a dettol wipe stems from the early days as a special care mum. For the first year of little man’s life I could definitely be pigeonholed as ‘The Germaphobe’. Everything was Dettol’d. These days I don’t go through quite so many but they’re great for wiping down change mats and highchairs when you’re out and about… gotta love an antibacterial wipe…right?!!
2. Spider. This convincing spider is made of a hair bobble and hair grips… essential for those days where you start out with your hair down and brushed, but your daily adventures mean you find yourself needing to scrape a greasy nest of hair out your face and pin it down for extra security! It happens more than I’d like to admit…
3. Maybelline Peach Lip Balm. Smells awesome. Moisturises lips with a slight colour. It’s a great rescue product when having a ‘minger moment’… which happens more than I’d like to admit too!
4. Bear Sweets. We’re pretty hot on avoiding sweets and chocolate where we can until the babes are old enough to ask for them… We aim to give them 10 of their 5 a day each day in the hope of: a) *harp plays in background* inspiring them to make healthy choices. Or… Unfortunately more likely: b) Fulfilling their childhood requirement of 5 a day before they spend their pocket/dinner money on chocolate and crisps. For now… dried fruit snacks and raisins constitute ‘sweets’ these ‘bear sweets’ are the current ‘sweet’ of choice! *double fist pump!*
5. Keys on a lanyard. I always lose my keys. Always. Unless they are attached to this little beauty. This usually resides around my neck or in the changebag. The lanyard gives extra rummage-and-yank properties to my keys for super speedy location and retrieval; especially when it’s raining/your arms are ladened with mini humans and/or shopping and maybe a car seat for good measure.

Thanks for sharing the contents of your changing bag with us, Kelly! The spider is a fab idea - I should keep one of those in my bag!

What’s in your changing bag? // Sophie from Sophie is…

Hello and welcome to “What’s in your changing bag?”; my weekly Tuesday feature where I ask one Yummy Mummy (or Daddy) to share the innermost secrets of their changing bag, and the five items they couldn’t possibly live without!

Today I’m joined by Sophie. I am seriously lusting over Sophie’s changing bag… which you can read about (and also ogle) below!

Hi Sophie - thanks for joining me on “What’s in your changing bag?” Please can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
I’m a former teacher and Abergavenny-born Londoner, now loving life writing novels by the sea. My son Arthur was born at home in Devon in December 2012, and is currently fast morphing from a baby into a toddler - though he still loves cuddles in the sling.

Ooh, Busby and Arthur are the same age! What a cutie he is.
What is your favourite thing about being a Mama to such a lovely little chap?
My favourite thing about being a Mummy is watching this little person I created grow and change and discover the world. He is such fantastic company, and every day we both teach each other something new.

Gorgeous! What would you say is the hardest thing about being a Mama?
I think the hardest thing about being a mum is holding my nerve in the way I’ve chosen to do things. Everyone approaches the challenges of parenting differently, so however much it can help to talk things over with friends, ultimately the decisions about what’s best for Arthur are down to me. I just hope I’m making the right ones!

This is so true.
What three words would you use to describe Motherhood?
Motherhood is exhilarating, entertaining and exhausting.

Ah, the three Es…
How do you preserve/maintain your sense of self?
In a funny way motherhood has actually helped me rediscover my sense of self. Having been a teacher for ten years, (a job which I loved but was totally all-consuming) I feel very privileged to be able to take some time to bring up my son and to write, which is something I’ve wanted to do for as long as I can remember. I’m working on my second novel at the moment, and really relish the time I get to escape into the world I’ve created and tell my stories.

Wonderful! As someone who has recently left their job to pursue the world of writing, I completely agree.
So, the last question before we find out about your changing bag; if you could share one piece of Motherhoodly wisdom with us all what would it be?
My piece of motherly wisdom is to find a way that you can bring up your child without losing sight of the person you want to be. Sometimes I think it can feel like your options are limited, but for me a little bit of reading and research has always thrown up a myriad of different ideas, which in turn has helped me find the mum I want to be to keep both me and Arthur happy.

Excellent advice!
Well, it’s business time Sophie! What make is your changing bag?

My changing bag is a rucksack from Accessorize. As I wear Arthur pretty much everywhere, the rucksack style is essential, but I was getting a little fed up of how utilitarian my previous bag was. When I saw this one in the sales I knew I had to have it.

Oh my word - your bag is gorgeous!!
What are the five items in your changing bag that you just can’t live without?

1. Nappy pouch: My lovely friend Sue’s very talented mum made this for me and Arthur when he was born - it’s big enough for a day’s supply of nappies, wipes and nappy bags, and even fits a matching change mat.
2. Water bottle: We’re still breastfeeding so I get very thirsty and never go anywhere without a bottle of water. I love Earthlust’s range of bottles because they’re stainless steel, so healthy for me and the environment, and also beautiful - which is obviously very important.
3. Book: Arthur loves reading, which is something I definitely want to encourage. I had this book made to tell the story of Arthur’s first year and it’s one of our favourites to read again and again.
4. Toy: I always make sure I have at least one toy in my bag to keep Arthur entertained. He really enjoys this star finger puppet at the moment - perfect for a quick rendition of twinkle twinkle…
5. Baby-led weaning ears: Arthur is an enthusiastic but very messy eater. I always try to make sure I have a bib, but even more important is a headband to protect his gorgeous hair. You can find out how I made these very useful ears on my blog!

Thanks for sharing the contents of your changing bag with us, Sophie. I love the baby-led weaning ears… I’m off to your blog to have a little look!

What’s in your changing bag? // Mary-Kate from Mummy Memories

Hello and welcome to “What’s in your changing bag?”; my weekly Tuesday feature where I ask one Yummy Mummy (or Daddy) to share the innermost secrets of their changing bag, and the five items they couldn’t possibly live without!

Today I’m joined by Mary-Kate, who has just given birth to baby Isabelle! By just, I’m talking yesterday! Eek!

Hi Mary-Kate! Wow - that’s a photo and a half! Please can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
I’m Mary-Kate, 25 years old girlfriend to Michael and mummy to Oliver who is 4 years old. I’m expecting my baby girl in early March 2014 (as I’m sat here writing this I’m getting little pains) but even though she’s not here yet my changing bag is already packed ready to go! I’m a fairly new blogger with my own blog, and a writer for online magazine called Visit From The Stork (an online magazine aimed at parents under 25 because I was 20 when I had Oliver, and think that this magazine is a fantastic idea).

Fab! Visit from the Stork sounds great - I’ll have to check it out (I was 25 when I had Busby).
What would you say is your favourite thing about being a Mama?
My favourite thing about being a mummy is teaching… Parents are children’s first teachers and when Oliver learns something new, I get the proudest feeling. Tonight he read an entire book to me before bed - ok, ok it was just 8 pages long, and had about 4 words on each page (a lot of repeating) but the fact that, at 4 years old, he’s reading it to me! I’m incredibly proud of his happy little face when he gets it right.

Wonderful!
What would you say is the hardest thing about being a Mama?
The hardest thing about being a mummy for me is the tantrums. I never had the terrible 2’s with Oliver, but we’ve had the occasional terrible 4’s!

Uh-oh!
What three words would you use to describe Motherhood?
Emotional, rewarding, exciting.

It’s certainly emotional…
How do you preserve/maintain your sense of self?
How do I maintain sense of self? Blogging, as of November 2013 I have met and spoken to some fantastic people and it’s taught me a lot about myself. I might be blogging about being a mum, but being a mum is what I love. I can’t wait to do baby massage with little lady when she arrives and go for long walks pushing her pushchair.

So, the last question before we find out about your changing bag; if you could share one piece of Motherhoodly wisdom with us all what would it be?
Listen to advice, but ignore the negative comments and views you get… you will probably get some! Everyone is a new parent at some point but some people forget that after a while; thinking they know better… They don’t tell you how hard it is to suddenly have this little person depending on you 24/7, but it does get easier and you will find your feet soon enough.

Excellent advice - this is so very true.
Ok, it’s business time: what make is your changing bag?

My changing bag is the gorgeous and super organised ‘Sequoia’ by Pacapod in mink - it has a place for everything inside!

Wait a minute! I recognise that bag! (I reviewed it last week here)
What are the five items in your changing bag that you just can’t live without?

1. Aden + Anais bamboo muslin. I learnt when Oliver was a baby that muslin squares are very useful and I have fell in love with these bamboo ones because they’re so soft, ideal for a new babies delicate skin.
2. Snoob. I’m determined to try harder with breastfeeding this time but I feel nervous of being on show so Michael brought me this lovely breastfeeding scarf for my birthday and I can’t wait to put it to the test. I will be taking it everywhere.
3. Kiddylicious snacks. For Oliver, I’ve made the mistake of being caught out with no treats for little one before and the last thing I want is to over spend on chocolate or sweets for him which will just send him into a hyper 4 year old.
4. Antibacterial hand gel. I like this little one from Cussons Mum & Me. You never know when you will need to clean your hands!
5. Spare clothes. Too many times with Oliver I was caught out with this, he was sick or nappy leaked and I had no spare clothes with me. This time I’m going to make sure I always have spare items on me.

Thanks for sharing the contents of your changing bag with us, Mary-Kate. The snoob sounds great - I’ll keep it in mind for the next one!

Review: PacaPod Sequoia

Those of you who read Make, Do and Push! regularly will be aware of my love for PacaPod changing bags. I have been besotted with PacaPod since they first graced my “What’s in your changing bag?” feature over a year ago. So you can imagine my utter delight when one appeared on my doorstep for me to review.

I was sent the Sequoia bag in Mink.

My first thoughts on the bag, after recovering from the initial excitement that I was now the beholder and owner of a PacaPod, was that it was bigger than I had imagined. Not that big is a bad thing at all; in fact when dealing with Little People, the greater the surface area of a bag, the better!

The first thing that attracted me to PacaPod bags was their organisation system! Before I had Busby I would say that I was an incredibly organised person, however, add a baby into the equation of life, and I seem to have misplaced the part of my brain that ensured I was always on time (or early) and made sure I replied to every letter/email etc! So I needed something to help me get my brain into gear… which is exactly what the PacaPod does! Everything is labelled so all your items have a place (and this excites me greatly).

The Bag
The Pods (Feeder and Changing - discussed below) take up the majority of the Sequoia’s space, however, there is still a surprising amount of room left for your Mama bits. In the “main” part of the bag I’ve managed to fit my sizeable purse, iPhone, A5 diary, make-up bag, change of clothes for Busby and books for Busby. I love that the key chain is in the top of the bag; this is extremely convenient for grabbing your keys, and means that you don’t have to throw everything out of the bag whilst searching for them. The side pockets are great for keeping things like perfume and toy dinosaurs in.

The Sequoia comes with pram straps, which is rather ingenious! They prevent the bag from slipping down the pram handles (one of my pet hates), and means that your bag is at a handy height incase you need to find your iPhone in a hurry to take a photo of your cute, little Munchkin.

Pram Straps

Initially the print is something I wasn’t so keen on; I’m one for bright colours and bold prints, but it has definitely grown on me, and in someways I love it more because it’s my “adult” changing bag. It’s also fairly unisex, and Nick is happy to be seen out and about with it.

The Pods

The bag has two pods; the Changing Pod and the Feeder Pod. Both pods clip out of the bag, which is fantastic for occasions such as nappy changes, as it means you don’t need to lug the whole bag (chocca with toys, snacks, books etc) to the toilet with you.

The Feeder Pod
The Feeder Pod is insulated and keeps items impressively at temperature (hot/cold). It also comes with an insulated bottle wrap, which incidentally is the perfect size for a small bottle of prosecco for those cheeky summer Yummy Mummy picnics… and obviously fits around a bottle for your child (as it was designed to)!

I love that the Feeder Pod has straps on the back so it can be turned into a rucksack for when your Little One is off on adventures and requires a packed lunch. Busby isn’t so keen on it quite yet, but she does look very sweet wearing the Pod.

The Changing Pod
The Changing Pod has room for four (disposable) nappies, a full pack of wipes and bags. It comes with a handy little box for keeping your cream in and a beautiful changing mat. The changing mat has an orange fleece headrest to prevent the mat from being used the wrong way round (fab!), and can also be bunged in the washing machine if you’ve experienced a particularly messy nappy! It rolls up very neatly and fits into a pocket behind the Changing Pod. My only niggle about the changing mat is that it’s quite small; perfect for under 12 months, but it’s getting a bit tight now with an almost 15 month old. There’s a special “first aid” side pocket on the Changing Pod, which is ideal for storing teething granules and calpol sachets, as well as plasters for those toddler bumps!

Changing Mat

Overall, I’m in love! The PacaPod system is amazing; I love the organisation of it all and I am excited every time I take it out as it is such a joy to use. It feels special. A very well designed and thought out product.

One of the only things that I found slightly disappointing about the bag is that it’s heavy; fine when attached to the pram, but if you’re a frequent baby-wearer this might not be the bag for you. However, this would not deter me from recommending it!

The PacaPod Sequoia is from the PacaPod luxury range and costs £140. It is available to buy on the PacaPod website.
