Learning to Love My Bump

We held our engagement party on Saturday; despite early hiccups with the venue, the party was a fantastic success and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves! I don’t think I sat down for more than five minutes all night, but am very happy to report that there wasn’t a swollen ankle, leg or foot in sight! I feel this is an achievement, for which I will give myself a pat on the Bump.

In my last blog post I wrote about low self-esteem and how I was feeling like a blob. I’ve had some wonderful feedback from friends, family, Facebookers and Tweeters in regards to the post and their pregnancy-esteem horror stories – so thanks so much! I was dreading the party from the “paparazzi” perspective, in other words, I did not want my photo taken! However, Nick’s dad had his SLR with him and managed to take two photos of me and Bump (and Nick of course) that don’t make me want to hide underneath my duvet until I’ve given birth, so in a rare turn of events I present to you: Nick, Bump and I! 

I don’t think I’ve had my Bump stroked and touched so much before in one evening (or ever)! It was very strange to start with – and everyone asked before they stroked, which is excellent pregnancy etiquette! She seemed to enjoy it though; when we got home from the party she spent most of the night whizzing around, on a buzz from the different strokes and hands she had felt saying hello. Obviously at 2am when you’re trying to get to sleep it’s a little frustrating, but retrospectively it’s rather magical and makes me smile. She’s definitely going to love being centre of attention! Strangely, all the touching and stroking has started to help me come to terms with my changing body; I suppose one could look at “Bump Stroking” as a primitive of form of acceptance within society, and rather than people looking at you thinking “what a fatty”, you are looked upon with an odd kind of respect and love. 

I thought I’d post some photos of the decorations and themeing in this blog post, as designed and made everything myself; I am really proud of how it turned out! A big thank you to my team of helpers who worked hard to turn my vision into reality.

In other news, I’m still sick – I thought the cold had disappeared, but it’s back with vengeance! Luckily I’d booked today off as I knew I’d be tired from the party. Hot lemon and honey is helping somewhat… I’m going to spend the afternoon making thank you cards for the massive haul of engagement presents we received on Saturday!
