36 weeks: Bring back confinement!

On the bus last week a very friendly drunk man wished me “good luck in my confinement”. I’d never heard of the end of pregnancy referred to as such before, but after a little research (wikipedia!) and a tweet from Miss Skysmile, I learnt that many years ago, usually between weeks 36-40 of pregnancy, ladies were confined to their beds to prevent premature delivery. Sounds like absolute bliss. Imagine all the crafting, reading and writing I could get done?! Wonderful!

Confinement is on my mind as for the last week or so I’ve been feeling totally and utterly exhausted. I had my 36 week midwife appointment yesterday where the midwife told me that my iron levels are slightly low, which would explain my constant desire to snooze (well low iron, and the fact I’m growing a baby the size of a “very large yellow melon” in my tummy)! I’ve just had another blood test to make sure they haven’t dropped any further, and I’m planning to keep my iron levels topped up by eating lots of spinach and kale! Good news as well – apparently cocoa is high in iron; so tuck me up in bed with a box of Hotel Chocolat chocolates, a hot chocolate and a good book, and confine me please!

Now I really fancy some chocolate-especially after seeing that photo, but my iron levels were on the low side too so there’s my excuse! 🙂 x
