Only ten days until Grape is due, and with a mixture of Braxton Hicks, lower back pain and cravings for “energy” foods, I think it’s safe to say she’s getting ready to make her break for freedom! With her arrival imminent, the subject of “names” is in the forefront of my mind. We’ve always had one favourite name and a couple of other names we liked, but after hearing “our” name used out and about quite frequently recently (and another unfortunate incident), I’m starting to have my doubts as I don’t want to call her something really popular or on trend… It doesn’t help that my thoughts are being bombarded with a new selection of names I like; I’m finding it difficult to decide whether “our” name is still my favourite.

A name is important; it doesn’t necessarily define who you are, but it’s one of the first things someone learns about you, and can bring about pre-conceptions and judgements before someone has got to know you. I never understood why people kept their cards so close to their chests when it came to naming their baby, but after the “unfortunate incident” a few weeks ago I learnt that it’s fairly gutting when your name is used just before you want to use it. Not that it really matters in the grand scheme of things, but when your hormones are in over-emotional mode it can seem like a disaster!
So how does one decide? We’re going to wait to we meet her before we name her for definite, as there’s a chance she won’t suit “our” name, but I’m hoping we’ll see her and everything will fall into place! If not, I guess we’re back to the drawing board… How did you decide on a name for your baby? Did you find it difficult to make the final decision? How long did it take you? Comment below or tweet me.
I’ve got a very exciting Christmassy week planned ahead – including two Christmas shopping nights. Bring on the mince pies!!

I have been having loads of Braxton hicks this week too and also craving energy foods!
We have struggled for names all along this time, we have one possibly two girls names we have settled on but ZERO boys names, which I am getting a bit anxious about now!
We had Alex’s name from near the start so when he made his arrival it was easy and instantly decided that would be his name. x
It would be so funny if they decide to come on the same day!!
Eek! Do you have a baby name book? We were given one quite early on and that helped with our list… if not, there are quite a few good websites for names? Do you think Bump is a he or a she? xx
Yes it would!
We have many…and I think I have exhausted the sites. I just can’t find ‘the one’ and then one of us will suggest a name and the other will throw it the no pile!
Not really I thought it was a boy with Alex, this time I’m not sure if it could possibly be a girl because loads of people have put the idea in my head, but I don’t want to get my hopes up as it would be lovely to have one of each! xx
