What’s in your changing bag? // Kelly from Fit Not Thin

Welcome to “What’s in your changing bag?”; my weekly Tuesday feature where I ask one Yummy Mummy (or Daddy) to share the innermost secrets of their changing bag, and the five items they couldn’t possibly live without!

This week I’m joined by a very active and inspirational Mama, Kelly.

Hi Kelly – what a beautiful photo! Please can you tell us a little bit about yourself.
Hi I’m Kelly; owner and founder of Fit Not Thin – Blooming Lovely. I am a first time Mum to India who was born on February 9th 2013. When I am not being a Mum I run my own business called Fit Not Thin – Blooming Lovely, which is all about Fertility, Antenatal, Postnatal and Women’s Health,Wellbeing and Fitness. I learned a lot during my own journey to pregnancy, in pregnancy and in the postnatal period. I feel extremely privileged to have the job I do, and love that I share my knowledge and learn from other women through their life experiences.

Wow! What an amazing job!
What would you say is your favourite thing about being a Mutti?

My fave thing about being a Mummy to India is the incredible and overwhelming feeling I have just looking at her, let alone the feeling when she smiles or cuddles up to me – it just makes my heart melt.

It’s truly amazing isn’t it?
What three words would you use to describe Motherhood?
Privileged, heart-aching, incredible.

Fab choice of words!
We’ve heard your favourite thing about being a Mutti – what would you say is the hardest thing?
The hardest thing for me is (when I am at work) to hear about all the new developments that she has made that day.

Oh gosh yes – I return to work today and this is the thing I’m dreading most!
How do you preserve/maintain your sense of self?

My evenings, when not working, involve painting my nails, having a hot bath with lots of bubbles, camomile tea and reading The Simple Things, Vogue and Country Living magazines. I also indulge in a facial once a month and a very much needed root touch up at the hairdressers – my nickname could be Pepe le Pew!!

Perfect!
So the last question before we find out what’s in your changing bag; if you could share one piece of Motherhoodly wisdom with us all what would it be?
My advice would be to listen to your heart, trust yourself and follow your gut instinct. You know your baby and what is right for you and them, so just do it. Don’t worry about what everybody else is doing and how they are doing it, as we are all beautifully individual and so is your wee one. Oh, and leave the Internet search button alone!!  There is so much information out there and the majority of it can leave you in a mummy frenzy meltdown.

Very true! Excellent advice there Kelly – thanks!
So, down to business: what make is your changing bag?

It’s a Cath Kidston oil cloth changing bag. My hubby bought it for me as he knew how much I love floral. Great to wipe clean and great compartments inside too.

Yay! I do love a bit of Cath! Such a gorgeous print too.
What are the five items in your changing bag that you just can’t live without?

1. Earths Best teething gel. Most needed at the moment with the bottom two teeth through and the top two on the way, the peppermint oil and Aloe leaf juice seem to sooth her gums the best and I like that it has natural ingredients.

2. Lucas Papaw Ointment. This little red tube goes everywhere with me; it is totes amaze! Great for my lips, her bottom, insect bites, burns, grazed skin. I just love it!
3. My little pouch of flyers. I am always out and about and talking to people! Also, I always need to top up the places I advertise in too.
4. Water and a healthy snack. These are key for me to have in my bag, and now India can have the dried mango to chomp on. Dried mango sticks are wonderful for teething wee ones!
5. Waterwipes. These are truly amazing; nothing but water and 0.1% fruit extract, which I love. They are useful for everything from a nappy change to face cleaning (for both of us!)

Thanks for sharing the contents of your changing bag with us, Kelly! We tried the Waterwipes last week – they were lovely! I’ve never heard of this teething gel or Papaw ointment before, but they sound fabulous.
