Welcome to “What’s in your changing bag?”; my weekly Tuesday feature where I ask one Yummy Mummy (or Daddy) to share the innermost secrets of their changing bag, and the five items they couldn’t possibly live without!
This week I’m joined by the very active Jay.
Hi Jay! Please can you tell us a little bit about yourself.
Hi I’m Jay, aged 31, and Mummy to Naomi aged 2 (January 2011) and Miriam born November 2012. An interesting fact about me is that after years of saying I can’t understand why anyone would run apart to catch a bus I have recently taken it up and I absolutely LOVE it!
Haha, you’re a braver woman than I!
What would you say is your favourite thing about being a Mutti to your two girls?
Watching my children each and every day growing, learning and loving and knowing that I have in no small way influenced the people they are becoming.
Beautiful!
What three words would you use to describe Motherhood?
Tiring. Inspiring. Rewarding.
Gosh it certainly is tiring isn’t it? I’m suffering this week.
We’ve heard your favourite thing about being a Mutti – what would you say is the hardest thing?
The fact you never get any time off. You are still on duty through the night, you don’t get to have a dedicated lunch break, even loo-breaks often come with an audience. I am hoping this will start to change as my oldest will soon start nursery, but I sometimes feel a little more in demand than I have capacity to deal with!
Oh yes – being a Mutti isn’t a glamorous occupation…
So with being followed to the toilet etc, how do you preserve/maintain your sense of self?
I try to maintain having hobbies! I love sewing and crafting so I try to fit some of that into life.
About three times a week I go for a run, which means I get about 45 minutes out the house with my MP3 player and just the road in front of me. I also love having a network on Twitter, which means if I risk getting through the day having only spoken about poo, I can pop on there and discuss something a little more cerebral.
Twitter has definitely saved my sanity in a few sticky situations…
So the last question before we find out what’s in your changing bag; if you could share one piece of Motherhoodly wisdom with us all what would it be?
You will frequently think you are getting it all wrong, making all the wrong decisions and making mistake after mistake. The truth is, there are no right decisions, only best decisions and actions. The very fact you take the time to worry about doing it “right” means you are doing the very best you can. And that is good enough.
Amazing advice, Jay – thank you so much.
So, down to business: what make is your changing bag?
My nappy bag isn’t actually a nappy bag, it is just a big bag from TK Maxx. However, it is the best nappy bag I’ve ever had. I love it, but I also like that it isn’t so girly that on the occasions when my husband has the children, he can also been seen out with it without too many blushes.
What are the five items in your changing bag that you just can’t live without?
Thanks for sharing the contents of your changing bag with us, Jay! I’ve never heard of the vest extender before – I’ll have to have a look for those.

A vest extender! wow, I am SO glad you featured this, as with a long baby already at 4 months it might come in handy, she couldve stayed in 0-3 vests a bit longer instead of being swamped in 3-6’s early! Off to search ebay, seller of everything!
Isn’t it a great product?! Never heard of them before! xx
