Up until my teens, horses were a dominating and extremely important part of my life… I never stopped loving them, or loving riding; I just reached the point in my riding life where I needed my own horse. After a period of bullying at the stables, and rather lacking in funds for my own equine bestie, I decided to stop my weekly lessons and give up my pony-on-loan for “normal” teenage escapades… or rather, more hobbity adventures. But the less said about that the better…
Yesterday a friend secured us free tickets for Hickstead’s Longines Royal International Horse Show! I used to go every year with Mutti and my Granny, so I couldn’t wait to introduce Busby to the wonderful world of showjumping!
We had a great day at the show; we had a picnic, we did some shopping and we even enjoyed a glass of Pimms in the sunshine! The children loved exploring and watching the horses; Busby said “more please” every time a horse jumped over the fence next to us.
Busby and her co-conspirator “H” spent rather a long time attempting to break into the main arena, and were a hilarious double act all day! At times it seemed like they had their own secret language; we’d love to know what they get up to at Nursery…
Busby did manage to get into the arena, but I swiftly pulled her out and endured a delightful toddler meltdown for ruining her adventure! I’m such a mean Mama sometimes…!
I think we’ll have to get her on a pony soon!

Teehee bless those tiny coconspirators 🙂 sounds like B is definitely going to take after her Mama! Xxx
I have never been to a horse show but there are so many around the country that I feel like I should do to one soon! I’ll be looking to take the children next Summer x
Oh I am so jealous! I am glad you had a lovely time though xxx
My childhood was much the same! Consumed by horses until my late teens when boys took over 😉 Love Hickstead, this blog takes me back!!
Sounds like a great day out - the pictures of the two little ones are adorable and hilarious (talk about looking mischievous!)
What a treat for everyone. I love the photos of Busby and H up to no good at the fence! Thanks for linking up and sharing with Country Kids.
When my kid was smaller he would bable to other kids too and its the cutest! I can already see how cute Busby is =) #countrykids
Just reading the word Hickstead sent me flying back to my childhood - glued to the TV watching the great showjumpers such as Harvey Smith (I’m showing my age here) and loving every minute of it. Glad you had fun - I would love to have been there with you!
Sounds like a lovely day with the horses, even with the toddler escapades 😉
Thanks for linking #LetKidsBeKids
