Pregnant with a Peppercorn // 16 weeks pregnant

Ah 16 weeks, you have not been kind to me. This week has been a week crippled with pregnancy insomnia, the return of vomiting and an exhaustion so overpowering I’m finding it difficult to even climb the stairs. Luckily I have my Midwife appointment next week, and I will be asking to be checked for anaemia, as something inside me feels super sluggish.

My skin continues to get worse, which is not massively pleasing. I’m not someone who wears lots of make-up, so I don’t want to clog up my pores with foundation etc, but at the same time I feel hideous… Oh well, there are bigger things in life to worry about than a few spots!

Peppercorn is the size of an avocado this week, and is apparently having a growth spurt – this might explain the first paragraph above… Baby is now pumping about 28 litres of blood each day, which again may indicate as to why I am feeling so slow and exhausted.

Even though I’m feeling fairly rubbish, my body is crying out for exercise. I used to do lots of walking when we lived in Lewes, up and down the many hills, but we’re a bit limited here at the moment for buggy-friendly routes… I have discovered one with stunning views, but it goes past a bakers which isn’t always the best idea for my impressionable appetite. My maternity tankini finally arrived this week, so I’m now on the hunt for a local pool so I can swim on a weekly basis!

I’ve eaten a lot of red meat this week, which my body has been craving madly. I’ve also been desperate for fresh fruit; namely, mangoes and nectarines. Nick took me to Waitrose on Saturday morning so I could buy these items – he’s a gem! I discovered Costa’s Mango and Passionfruit cooler on Friday; it’s delicious, although I’m not sure how much real fruit is actually in there, but it hit the spot.

I realised earlier on in the week that I’ve been feeling worse and very nauseaous after taking my pregnancy vitamins – after a bit of research I discovered that this is quite a common complaint, so I’ll be chatting to the Midwife about that too, and asking whether I can take folic acid and vitamin D in their place.

The most exciting thing to happen this week has been TEA! (Well that and potentially finding a house to buy!) I woke up on Thursday morning thinking “ooh I’d love a cup of tea”, and decided to make myself one a bit later in the day… it tasted AMAZING! As soon as the golden brown liquid entered my mouth I felt my body relax, and I’ve been drinking it ever since… obviously not all the time, as have to limit myself to two cups a day in pregnancy, but yay! Joyful times!

Sounds like baby is really taking it out of you next week. Are you taking pregnacare? They can make you feel sick if not taken with food. Very glad to hear you are managing tea again though!

      I’m taking Superdrug’s own Pregnacare.

I’m so happy about the tea! xx

I had hyperemisis with both mine and couldn’t take the supplements either - I also couldn’t drink tea until the last trimester with my second boy….I missed tea!

Try taking the vits just before bed or with your last meal of the day. I had to do this as they also made me feel sick. Apparently it’s the foil acid which makes people feel sick my midwife told me when I was pregnant with L. Hope the next week is kinder to you. Xxx

Oh really? I was ok when just taking folic acid in first trimester (but then maybe I wasn’t and it was that making my sickness worse…) xx

Ahhh poor you! Rest is difficult when you’ve got so much on isn’t it? I found this time in pregnancy quite difficult too, feeling sluggish and super-tired. Here’s to feeling better next week! Jess x

I am only two weeks behind you! I have had no vomiting at all so far (touch wood), just nausea in first trimester but that has improved no end. I was the same in my first pregnancy though and then I was sick around 15 weeks so hoping there’s no recurrence of that!

Glad you are able to enjoy a lovely cuppa despite the feeling bleurgh. xx

Oh I really feel for you with the nausea and vomiting! I ended up on medication last time which wasn’t ideal but the only way I was able to get out of bed each day. Its pretty miserable. I did try lots before I went on to the meds and apparently vit b is supposed to help so it might be an idea to speak to your midwife. And definitely get your blood checked as I think its a while off before they test it routinely for aneamia. Good luck and thank you for linking up to #MaternityMatters xx x
