Pregnant with a Peppercorn // 17 weeks pregnant

My energy levels have felt re-invigorated this week, after last week’s sluggishness. That might have something to do with me temporarily taking a break from my vitamins – I’ve found some folic acid and vitamin D tablets to take now, so I’m hoping they don’t bring me back down into the lows of sickness! I shall be taking them at night too, following all of your very kind advice last week – thank you!
This week Peppercorn is the size of an onion and, according to my app, his skeleton is changing from cartilage to bone – I can’t wait to smooch those little toes, and nibble on those teeny fingers!

Peppercorn’s flutterings are becoming more pronounced and kick-like! I spent five minutes watching my tummy in the bath the other night to see whether I could spot a mini-bulge in my side! I’m so excited for what’s to come!

This week I have been craving nectarines, mangoes and cherries, and eating them as if the world supply might run out… I’ve also found myself rather partial to a stack of cheese and crackers, gravy, and red meat again (the latter two food items not accompanying the cheese). Later on in the week I found myself desperately wanting cold, green apples. I’ve completely gone off carrots – I had this with tomatoes when I was pregnant with Busby, and I still can’t eat them – so I’m hoping this is only temporary!

Mama needs cherries! (Those eagle-eyed among you will notice that I couldn’t even wait to take the photo before eating my first cherry!)

I had my Midwife Appointment this week, which went well. I still can’t quite get a grasp on my Midwife – I had a fantastic rapport with my Community Midwife when I was pregnant with Busby – but it’s tricky this time round… She’s very abrupt, and it feels like she gets annoyed with some of my questions. Perhaps I’m just being sensitive and reading too much into things? Anyway, Busby and I heard Peppercorn’s heartbeat, which she managed to find straight away, and it was strong and healthy. My bloods came back fine too, so it looks like it was just the pregnancy vitamins making me feel dreadful! I asked the Midwife about these too, and she said it’s fine to just take folic acid and vitamin D, and if they make me feel rubbish then to take them every other day.

We’ve also had an appointment letter through from the Antenatal Consultant for after the 20 week scan to make sure Peppercorn’s heart is growing correctly; we had to do the same with Busby due to family history, and I’m sure everything will be fine. I’m hoping she might do another scan as they did with Busby, just so we can spend some more time looking at Peppercorn.

My skin continues to go from bad to worse, with spots over my arms and chest now. I’ve also started to develop white heads on my face?! Never before have I had a white head! Perhaps I’ll start to bloom next week, and all the spots will miraculously disappear? No? Oh well, a Mama can dream…

I’m still drinking tea – for which I am utterly grateful! I’m not entirely sure how I’ve coped without my morning cup of tea for so many months… It was a dark time.

I have been craving fruit too - apples, grapes, mango and strawberries are my current favourites. I love those first fluttery movements, magical.

Sorry to hear yoru midwife is a bit abrupt, I suspect it is just her manner rather than being anything to do with you, just carry on as you are and you have me craving cherries now! Mich x

Yes, I expect so. She’s just quite young, so I expected her to be a bit more lighthearted, and less tainted by years in the job! xx

How exciting that Peppercorn’s flutterings are started to feel more pronounced! I loved that part of my pregnancy. My skin went quite dry during pregnancy. You look like you are blooming in your photo. Looking forward to next weeks update. Thanks for linking up to #bloggerbumps http://bit.ly/14Y3ERb
