Pregnant with a Peppercorn // 27 weeks pregnant

This week has been another good one! Despite feeling bone-numbingly exhausted again as the third trimester starts to creep into the forefront, I still feel like I’m blooming! My hair is full of life, and if you ignore my back, my skin is almost looking radiant. The exhaustion is mostly down to Busby, who has decided that sleep is for the weak, which has been oodles of fun, as you can imagine – especially as we have been so busy down in Sussex for the first part of the week. But heigh-ho, it’s all preparation for when the baby arrives…

At 27 weeks Peppercorn weighs as much as a cauliflower (nom) or cucumber, and is about 37cm long. I have felt him hiccuping away this week on quite a few occasions. I’ve also felt his foot in my ribs a few times, and am starting to find it more difficult to get comfortable when sitting.

Busby and the Bump: She has found Peppercorn rather fascinating this week, and keeps saying she “wants him now”. Our daughter is not a patient creature.

Heartburn and indigestion have been back this week, although luckily only on a small scale. Spicy food and eggs seem to aggravate, as does eating food quickly or on the move – a bad habit formed from having a Toddler around.

I had a Midwife appointment this week, which was slightly overdue following our trip to Sussex. Everything was fine; my bump is measuring exactly on 27 weeks, his heartbeat is very strong, and he even became slightly ragey with the doppler machine and started kicking it every time he was prodded. After using the doppler, the student midwife used a traditional wooden pinard horn to pinpoint exactly where he was, which was absolutely fascinating!

I’ve been craving green juice again this week, as well as maltesers. I’ve also been rather partial to a hot cross bun or two…!

Despite the fact we’re pretty certain on Peppercorn’s name (I’ve been unconsciously calling him it in conversation), Nick and I had a brief look through my family tree for name inspiration while we were staying in Sussex. Nothing immediately jumped out, although we were very happy to see a number of our shortlisted names featured.

I had the most wonderful dream about him on Thursday night, and dreamt about the birth I’d love to have… I started thinking about my birth “plan” in this post and a home birth is looking like my preferred option, especially as there are no Midwife Led Units in East Yorkshire. The idea of a post-labour cup of tea and slice of cake is wildly appealing… how terribly British of me!

Next week I turn 28 weeks pregnant, and thus starts the beginning of the third trimester! I can’t quite believe how quickly he’ll be here…

Glad everything is going well! How odd they don’t have midwife led units up there, I thought they were all over. You’ll just have to come back down here haha 😉 xx

They have them in West Yorkshire, but closed the MWLU in our village in East Yorkshire in 2012…! So it’s now hospital or home! xx
