I discussed birth quite frequently when we were down in Sussex last week. My almost-definite decision to home birth Peppercorn has been met with lots of questions from friends and family – and they’re not the only ones – I can’t wait to meet the midwives of East Yorkshire so I can work through my many questions.
While chatting away, I noticed that the pain of childbirth was mentioned lots in these conversations; it seems to be the focus of childbirth in our society, and I was reminded of this brilliant passage from Ina May Gaskin’s Guide to Childbirth book that I’ve recently finished reading.
I thought it was perfect for this week’s Positive Birth Inspiration post – Ina May’s book has really helped me change my mindset when it comes to pain and the way I view my body. I’m not feeling absolutely terrified to give birth anymore, I’m actually rather looking forward to it… especially if I get a slice of homemade cake and a cup of tea afterwards!
What’s been keeping you positive this week?
Hannah
I read Ina Mays book before having my second. It was a great read and I definitely was more prepared for the second. I felt much more in control and not anxious at all. I loved the whole thing! x
That’s a great quote! 🙂 I’m glad you are felling positive.
There’s so much more to childbirth than just ‘pain’ I don’t know why we, as a society, focus on just that aspect alone.
