Pregnant with a Peppercorn // 33 weeks pregnant

33 weeks has been one of more decorating, rather painful Braxton Hicks, and accidental naps! Oops! The house is coming along nicely – we’re hoping to move our things over next weekend once the new carpets are in, and I can’t wait to get my sewing machine out to make bunting for Peppercorn’s Nursery! It will make a change from the paint brush that hasn’t left my side for most of the week…

This week Peppercorn weighs about 2kg (the same as a pineapple or honeydew melon) and should measure approximately 44cm from head to toe. I can feel him growing daily at the moment, and have been able to make out a little bottom sticking out of my bump!

I had my “Booking Appointment” with the East Yorkshire Midwifery Team on Thursday, which involved a longer-than-it-should-have-been trek to the community hospital from the train station… I arrived looking hot, bothered and with high blood pressure! Oops! I was on time, however, which was a miracle considering the amount of times I had to keep stopping due to Braxton Hicks contractions. At one point I thought I might be in labour… and kept plodding along with the mentality of “at least I’ll be in the hospital if I am about to have this baby”. I received a small scolding from the Midwife when I arrived, and was told to take a taxi back to the station… I got the bus!

Nevertheless, the appointment was worthwhile – all is looking good for a Home Birth, I just need the Midwifery Team in our new village to come and check out the house (another reason we need to get everything finished soon!). Baby was head down, head-butting my bladder… Joyful. I’ve got a feeling he will be making an early arrival, but fingers crossed not before 37 weeks as I will have to birth in hospital prior to this.

I suffered from awful Braxton Hicks contractions for most of Thursday night/Friday morning, and could not get comfortable in bed. Once again I was wondering whether this might be the start of something, and they continued on through Friday morning… I was feeling utterly shattered by this point, so decided to rest my head after lunch before tackling more DIY, but ended up falling asleep for about three hours instead… Oops! The Braxton Hicks stopped after I’d rested – so silver linings and all that jazz!

The digestive shelf in our larder!

I’ve had particularly sweet cravings this week, including MarsBars, milk chocolate digestives (yup, again), mango, and pineapple juice. I’ve also just discovered Costa’s peach iced tea which is delicious, and I’m quite desperate for some as I write this!

I really need to get some birthmin done next week, such as confirming the pool for our home birth, writing a birth “plan” and packing a hospital bag – just in case he does decide to make an early entrance.

How exciting that every thing is all go for your home birth. Dont worry too much about the state of the house - as long as you can get your pool up and the midwives have room to get to you from all sides, then that’s fine. And take it easy - I swear Wee Bun came 2 weeks early because I was running about non stop!
