Pregnancy // Appreciating Pregnancy (A Poem)

Another grunt.
Another groan.
Another sigh.
Another moan.
The third trimester
Here we be,
A mere few weeks
Until we meet Baby.
It’s not comfortable.
It’s not dignified.
I can’t do my shoes up,
Trust me I’ve tried.
But truth be told
I will be sad,
Once Baby has used my uterus
As a launching pad.
Because, it’s funny really,
As much as I complain,
I really do love being pregnant,
And I’ll yearn for it again.
The way that Baby
Sticks out his bum,
Or the way I can make out,
Little footprints on my tum.
The way that he dances,
When we sing him a song,
The way I spend time,
Chatting to him all day long.
Rubbing my bump,
Patting my tummy,
Smiling and glowing,
Like a Yummy Happy Mummy.
I don’t mind the sleeplessness,
Nor the trips to the loo,
Or the backache, or hip pain,
Or the fact I can’t poo.
I’ll miss the way he wiggles,
Whilst I eat tasty food,
And the way he cheers me up,
When I’m in a mood.
I’ll miss how I’m never
Ever ever alone,
I’ll miss all the marvelling:
“Oh look how you’ve grown!”
Pregnancy is too quick,
It’s over so swiftly,
Nine months of life,
Is nothing in History.
So I may be uncomfy,
I may look like a whale,
Anaemia may have turned,
My skin rather pale,
But I refuse to let myself
Wish this time away,
I’ll appreciate these last few weeks,
Day by (snoozy) day.
Our Boy will be here soon,
And we’ll all sing with glee,
But for now it’s me and Bump,
(And a cup of tea.)

Love this, it really sums up late pregnancy. I don’t think I’ll ever pine for pregnancy again though. I am done!

    This is brilliant, Hannah. 🙂

One of the things I loved about being pregnant was never, ever feeling alone.

Funny, now that I’m a parent - I would love just 5 minutes alone (to pee etc.)

Ah, this has made me excited to do it all again one day (hopefully). xxx
