“What does it feel like to be 39 weeks pregnant?” a friend asked me this week.
“Big.” was my reply, “Big, impatient and pretty uncomfortable.”
So here we are at 39 weeks, and Peppercorn is approximately the weight of a mini-watermelon (3.4kg, which is around 7lb 5oz). I had my 39 week Midwife appointment on Wednesday, and she thinks that he’s a “good size” baby and will probably weigh into the 8lb range…! Eek! This has had me repeating my positive “My body wouldn’t grow a baby I couldn’t birth” affirmation as I began to worry… Busby was only 6lb 14oz, which was the perfect size!
The Midwife also assured me that he hasn’t disengaged, and that his head is firmly down there and ready to arrive! However, I am rather glad he hasn’t decided to make an appearance yet as I contracted a delightful cold from Busby on Wednesday, and have been feeling pretty rubbish ever since!
I’ve been suffering from mild odema in my hands and feet again, and woke up on Tuesday morning to find my hands clasped together… and found it very difficult to prise them apart! They’re quite painful to move first thing in the morning and last thing at night. Nick has been amazing; giving me foot rubs to help the swelling in my feet – he’s very good at them – I might rent him out afterwards!
Tightenings and surges are coming and going again, but I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s impossible to go into labour with a Toddler around, as any signs of a Baby arriving seem to cease immediately when Busby throws a tantrum… which being two and a half years of age, seems to be every ten minutes!
You look fabulous still and I hope the cold goes away very soon. Oh and happy due date! Is that a thing to say to people? Hope that ball is helping lots. I just get out and go buy one!
The end is really close now Hannah. Master Peppercorn will soon be here. I had odema in my hands really badly, it’s really painful isn’t it. I couldn’t peel potatoes or anything when I had it. I hope it doesn’t get any worse for you and your over your cold really soon.
Don’t worry about his size, he could be any size at all, they aren’t usually very accurate at guessing these midwives. I was told I was carrying a lot of water (I was) but when I had him 2 weeks early he was 7lb 10, so he would have been a little bruiser probably. I was once told also that bigger babies are easy to give birth to, don’t know how true that is (and I’m guessing they aren’t talking like a 12lber) but like you said, your growing him so you’ll be able to deliver him. Xxxx
I can’t believe you’re at the end already, it’s gone so fast! I got the baby is a ‘good size’ at my midwife appointment a few weeks ago (at 31 weeks!), god knows how big my boy is going to be haha. Here’s hoping he doesn’t keep you waiting much longer, come on master peppercorn! xx
Happy due date! Glad baby’s decided to let you get over your cold before making his appearance- labour with a cold would be horrible. The last few days of pregnancy seem to last forever, don’t they? I love that any signs of labour stop when Busby has a tantrum, it’s like nature’s way of saying, ‘actually I think you’ve got enough on your plate right now, this baby keep cooking until tomorrow!’
Ooh not long to go now lovely! Gorgeous bump shot but sorry to hear you’re feeling poorly, hope you shake that cold off before peppercorn makes an appearance! Thanks for linking with #MaternityMondays
