Motherhood // A sleep deprived Mama introduces the Bruno Mattress

The sleep issue is definitely getting better, but a good, full night of sleep is still an uncertainty in our house. I seem to spend a great deal of time reminiscing about the pre-parent days of Sunday morning lie-ins and drifting off in front of the TV undisturbed in an evening.

…Sunday morning lie-ins? Were they a thing? Some days I am quite sure that they were just a figment of my imagination.

I make the most of the few hours of sleep I do manage to scrape together at the moment. This means banishing the laptop, phone, books, friends – basically anything that isn’t my mattress, pillow and duvet. Consequently, the more I have come to appreciate quality sleep, the more I have begun to appreciate a good quality mattress. And is it just me that has seen a lot of things written about these new breeds of straight-to- your door mattresses delivered in a box? Surely there is a reason why we shell out time after time for the long-established high street brands? I have been looking a little closer on why these new brands have become so popular recently and considering whether I could be persuaded to buy my next mattress online…

A mattress is something we (probably) all use every day of our lives and yet the buying of one is an absolute drag – and an expensive drag at that. There have recently been a lot of things written and shared about a new company in the UK, Bruno Sleep, and I have been doing a bit of research to see what all the fuss is about.

Opting for memory foam has always been a bit of a compromise in that it does provide comfort, but there are often downsides such as the sinking in and feeling and getting too hot in the night as a result.

The founders of Bruno Interior, Felix Baer and Andreas Bauer, believe that they have developed a mattress that does not compromise in terms of comfort and quality.

Perhaps the first thing to notice is that memory foam is not used in the Bruno Mattress. Instead, a combination of high-density foam and natural latex is used. The foam core is precision cut in order to form the 7-zones of support, offering varying levels of support in accordance to body part. The latex layer which lies on top is said to provide a similar comfort level to memory foam but is a more breathable and durable material. This is all encased by the outside cover which has a detachable quilted top – perfect for hassle-free washing.

After looking through their site and the many positive reviews of this mattress I have read, I am tempted – especially after comparing the price to our current shop-bought mattress. Bruno Sleep also offers a 30 night risk-free trial, meaning that for whichever reason you are not completely satisfied with the product within your first 30 nights, you can return the mattress cost free and receive a full refund.

I was a little skeptical about the idea that of a mattress being delivered compressed in a box; however the production information on their website does seem to make sense. As well as making the delivery of your mattress being more environmentally friendly and easier to maneuver to the desired bedroom. Their website states that “the processes increases the long-life elasticity of the mattress by “crushing” any millimetre sized air bubbles that may have formed within the foam.” Just a few hours after being unpacked, the mattress is at its full size and is ready for napping on.

Sounds pretty tempting, and is a real contender for when I need to replace our old mattress. What are your thoughts? Would you consider buying your next mattress online?

I actually did buy my mattress online- a memory foam double from eBay. It arrived wrapped up in several cling-film-like layers of plastic, rolled up into a tub shape that was about 4.5ft high, and 1ft diameter. It sprung to life the minute I cut off the plastic wrapping- basically trapping me against the wall in the process! - which was hilarious and thankfully not too painful, seeing as it’s a super-comfy mattress 🙂

P.S. That said, if Bruno offers the chance for Felix to be delivered with their mattresses, I might reconsider the eBay option :p

      I LOVE this story!

Sadly I’m not sure Felix can be arranged with your order, but I’ll ask for you 😉 xx
