What the Children Wore // The Essential One

I’d like to introduce you to British brand The Essential One on this week’s What the Children Wore.

With an extensive CV in children’s fashion, Managing Director Karen started The Essential One a few years ago to bring parents a sense of ease when choosing clothes for their newborns – with essentials only and super quick postage! Since then the brand has grown – introducing a maternity clothing range, and now childrenswear.

H-Bear owned a couple of gorgeous pieces from The Essential One’s baby range when he was a teeny cub, and two of my breastfeeding staple dresses were from their maternity section, so I was very excited to see what the childrenswear range would hold.

Busby and H-Bear were sent a party outfit each from the new collection, and so we headed over to Ferriby on Saturday to try out a new location for shooting these posts (I love finding different shooting locations!).

I’ve passed the Tea Room on Ferriby station platform six times in the past three weeks on my journey to and from London, and each time I’ve thought “Ooh that looks like a cute place to eat cake” and also, “What a gorgeous station to hold a shoot on”, so we popped over for fresh air, cake and photos.

Unlike the station in our village, Ferriby was quite busy and I didn’t want to risk H-Bear running off a platform, hence why Busby is only featured with trains. H is a clever soul, but he seems to suffer from a distinct lack of danger awareness!

The majority of the photos were taken up the road from the station on a gorgeous tree-lined road leading up to the church. The light was divine.

Busby was sent the most beautiful Champagne Satin Corsage Special Occasions dress.

She absolutely loves it! She’s at the age where she makes up songs and dances, and this dress fits the bill wonderfully for twirling!

The dress would make the most perfect Christmas Day dress (or if you want to risk taking it to school, it would be ideal for an angel costume for the Nativity/Christmas play!).

The outer of the dress is made from 100% polyester, but the lining is 100% cotton, making the dress perfect for playing in too.

I love the button detailing at the back of the dress, and the adorable corsage flower!

Busby wears age 4-5 years, which fits well with some growing room in the length.

The Champagne Satin Corsage dress costs £36.99 and would be the most wonderful dress for Christmas parties this season – or Christmas Day itself.

H-Bear was sent the cutest Boys Smart Waistcoat, Shirt and Tie set and coordinating Smart Formal Trousers from the occasionwear range.

The trousers have an adjustable waist, which is handy for H-Bear as he’s quite a skinny long creature!

All of the garments are made from 100% super fine cotton, and are easy to move and play in.

I love cute bear motif on the waistcoat! The adorable fabric used on the back of the waistcoat adds a fun, playful element to the outfit.

The velcro-fastening tie which comes with the shirt and waistcoat is ridiculously cute!

H-Bear wears age 18-24 months, which is a little on the big side. Therefore, if you’re looking for an outfit to fit perfectly just for the festive season, then I would probably size down if you have a long, skinny munchkin too!

The Boys Smart Waistcoat, Shirt and Tie set cost £26.99-£28.99 and the matching Boys Smart Formal Trousers cost £16.99-£18.99. Prices vary depending on sizing. This outfit would be perfect for Christmas Day or festive family gatherings; H-Bear received so many compliments on Saturday!

All of the above garments can be found on The Essential One website. They currently have up to 30% off clothing, so pop over with a cup of tea this naptime.
