Make // Flower Crown Tutorial

I decided to make Busby a flower crown for our Tale of Two Skirts shoot over the weekend (I love a good prop in my photographs, especially on my kidswear shoots). I’d not made one before, but having researched them (thank you Pinterest) they looked fairly easy to make – and they were.

Busby’s crown has had lots of love on Instagram, so I thought I’d put together an easy to follow tutorial for you to make your own. This is definitely a play date activity that I shall be introducing over summer!

You will need:

Florist wire (I used Oasis Bindwire)
Florist tape
Some wire cutters (or super sharp scissors)
Flowers! I found all of these in our garden and pathway.

After lots of searching I managed to find florist wire and tape at The Range – although if you don’t have one nearby, Amazon had some florist-themed bundles.

Instructions:

Step 1. Size up the head you’ll be making the crown for, and cut wire to size. Shape into oval/circle. This will make your crown base.

Step 2. Wrap another strand of wire around the crown base to make it more sturdy.

Step 3. Wrap florist tape around the crown base.

Step 4. Start adding your flowers and foliage by taping the flowers to the crown base. I started Busby’s crown off with ivy and yellow leaves from the bush in our garden, and then taped more delicate flowers on top.

Step 5. Your crown is finished! It’s as easy as that! The beauty of this crown is that you can make it as big and bushy, or small and delicate as you like. We even made one for Flopsy Bunny!

Keep you crown nice and cool so the flowers don’t wilt immediately – I kept this one in a bucket of spare foliage in the garden until we needed it (and over night).

I love the finished look and will definitely be making these all year round for shoots. You could also use artificial flowers for a crown that will last longer – although I’m not sure anything beats a fresh flower crown!

Save me for later – pin me!

Oh it looks so much easier than I thought it would be! I’m going to do this with my girls during May half term I think! Thanks for the tutorial 🙂

This is so beautiful. Busby looks stunning in the floral crown. I really think that I should make one of these for Little Miss H. It looks pretty easy and I know she would love it. Hugs Lucy xxxxx
