Half term is over, and the rain cometh! (How lucky did we get with the weather over the school holidays though?).
If you are thinking about settling down with the family for a rainy day movie this coming weekend, then you might want to choose something that appeals to everyone.
If you are lost for what to put inside your DVD player, download or stream, a great starting point would be to hold a family poll. If the kids want something of their own, and the grown-ups are willing to compromise, why not?
Here are some of our favourites:
1. Finding Nemo
This is always a favourite with our little team. Finding Nemo tells the story of a clown fish who gets captured at sea by fishermen, and his dad’s journey to rescue him. Once watched, you will find yourself constantly quoting the film for eternity.
2. Frozen
Another favourite here – especially with Busby! This Disney epic is a take on the Snow Queen fairytale, and is full of wonderful songs that will never leave your head. Nick and I actually watched this for the first time on honeymoon to make sure it wasn’t too ‘Disney princess’ and we were pleasantly surprised by the themes of sibling love – and the hilarity of Olaf!
3. The Toy Story Trilogy
The first Toy Story film came out in 1996 (when I was 9 years old) and it instantly became a classic. There are now three films in the trilogy, which tell of the adventures of Woody, Buzz and the rest of Andy’s toys. Both children adore these films – and Nick is always happy to oblige when requested to watch!
4. Paddington
An adaptation of the wonderful books by Michael Bond, this film is loved by everyone in our family (including grandparents)! It appeals to all ages on so many levels – and the good news is that the second film is due for release during the October half term.
5. Thomas and Friends: Day of the Diesels
We found this film on Amazon Prime a few months ago, and both children still request to watch it when we’re having a resting day. Based on the classic Thomas the Tank Engine series, the film sees a fire break out on the Island of Sodor. Two new firefighting engines, Flynn and Belle, join Thomas and Percy to save the day, but then Thomas makes friends with the diesels… and Percy isn’t keen! It’s a story about friendships and acceptance.
