How do you choose the perfect dog bed for your favourite canine buddy? I never thought it would be a tough decision, but it proved more difficult than first thought when I started searching!
I spent a good few hours researching and looking at beds online and in store in the weeks leading up to Bertie coming home. We wanted a bed that was cosy and comfortable, but also aesthetically pleasing. One that would help him feel safe and comforted after leaving his mum and siblings.
Removable covers or a washable bed was a must! Having had dogs in the family for years, I know how muddy and soggy their beds can get – especially in winter – so it was imperative that we found a bed that could be popped in the washing machine every few weeks.
Comfort was also high on my list of priorities. A soft bed, where Bertie would love to snooze and feel safe. A little bit of luxury for our new family member.
Size was a big consideration for us. Bertie was so teeny when he first arrived and has already grown so much in two weeks, so we needed a bed that was big enough to last. Bertie also likes to stretch out when he snoozes, so a bed with a bit of space – even once he’s fully grown – was a must.
However, with size comes bed location. We didn’t want a bed that would dominate the room, especially in the first few weeks as he sleeps in his crate at night. And we wanted one that could be moved around easily, as he likes to be in the same room as us when he naps during the day.
But, most importantly, what does Bertie want from a dog bed?
…Somewhere to chew my slippers!!!
A big thanks to the lovely folk at Raised by Humans who sent Bertie one of their gorgeous designer metric doughnut beds (photographed). He adores it – as do the children (there’s always a battle for who gets to sit in it!).
oh gosh these photos are adorable! I would be so worried Beau would eat this in minutes. He has eaten through several beds and bed inserts.
