The kids are back at school and nursery, and consequently the germs are rife in our home at the moment. I dislike this period of the year when it feels like one (or more) of us is constantly ill. I swear we have a different bug penetrate the house every single week. Not to mention the dust that seems to accumulate over the course of a couple of days, and soon we’ll be adding a puppy into the mix!
A few weeks ago we were sent the Philips Air Purifier Series 3000 to try out.
With Busby having recently started school, it’s imperative that she’s getting a great night of sleep daily – especially as she seems to be learning so much every single day! I honestly can’t believe how far she’s come in the past six weeks!
There have been so many stories in the press recently about children and sleep deprivation. It is so important for children to get a proper night of sleep because lack of sleep plays havoc with their health, which in turn affects their ability to focus in school.
So it was extremely interesting (and a bit of a shock) to find out that indoor air can be up to 5 times more polluted than outdoor air . With this in mind, and with the newly acquired knowledge that children breathe more than adults, we couldn’t wait to set up the purifier and get started.
The Philips Air Purifier captures 99.9% of bacteria in the first hour of use, as well as removing 99% of dust, pet hair, viruses and pollen whilst running (tested by Shanghai Institute of Measurement and Testing Technology (SIMT) in 30m3 chamber according to GB21551.3-2010, (Staphylococcus albsp) 8032 as testing bacteria). The inbuilt particle smart sensor measures the quality of air in a room, and (very cleverly) automatically selects the right setting for maintaining an optimum air quality level.
It has a numerical PM2.5 indicator, which works with the coloured ring to provide a real-time reading so you can measure your air quality. The ring turns red if the air quality is bad, purple if the air quality is fair and blue when it’s clean.
The Philips Air Purifier has a timer setting, so you can set the purifier to run for 1, 4 or 8 hours. It also has a sleep mode for night time with a dimmed lights and a quieter fan, which will continue to do its job while you sleep.
Since it arrived, we have used the air purifier in all of our bedrooms to improve our air quality (and consequently, sleep quality). We’ve also used the air purifier in the kitchen to remove odours. Not only this, but it came in very handy the other day when Nick used a chlorine-based product to clean our internal windows, and I had it running while I was painting our living room.
Busby is quite sensitive to allergens in the air, and she often complains about not being able to get to sleep because her eyes are watering. We’ve always thought this was a delay tactic for not going to sleep, but she hasn’t complained about this since the air purifier has arrived and seems to be sleeping much better.
Nick suffers from asthma, so he’s found the air purifier extremely useful as allergens have a major impact on the quality of indoor air. The HEPA filter and Intelligent Purification System (IPS) are designed to filter dust, bacteria and viruses – and he’s definitely breathing easier!
Also, I briefly mentioned our new family member at the top. We have a cockapoo puppy coming to live with us in November, and the air purifier is supposed to be fantastic for filtering pet dander (fur and dead cells) from the air, which will again help Nick’s asthma.
I have to admit that an air purifier isn’t something I would have really thought about buying before ours arrived, but now we’ve had ours for a month and I think it’s fantastic! It’s great to have peace of mind that the children (and Nick and I!) are breathing cleaner, healthier air. Busby seems to be sleeping better, Nick is less sneezy and I don’t feel so guilty if I don’t get round to dusting or hoovering for a couple of days.
The Philips Air Purifier Series 3000 retails at £380 and more information can be found on the Philips website. Make, Do & Push! Readers can also bag themselves a 20% discount by using code: MAKEDOPUSH until the end of 2017.
I would love to have something like this.
Oh this is so interesting! I’ve often wondered whether one of these would make a difference! I think we may have to invest in the new year!
