Adventures // A Sunday stroll on Fraisthorpe beach

Nick has renamed Sundays ‘Beach Sunday’, as we’ve found ourselves exploring the Yorkshire coast almost every Sunday in January. I’m more than happy to keep up this tradition!

Last weekend we visited Fraisthorpe beach, which had been recommended by everyone in the hairdressers! It was one of those wonderful #VillageLife moments; I was chatting to my hairdresser Nikki about locations for an upcoming shoot, and said I hadn’t found anywhere with sand dunes yet. All of a sudden, about three separate people exclaimed “Fraisthorpe beach! You must go!” and then proceeded to tell me all about the WW2 bunkers, the wind turbines that lead up to the beach, and then the sand dunes and amazing beach itself. Oh, and it’s dog friendly all year round!

So off we went on Sunday morning.

The weather was a lot milder than our adventure to Mappleton beach the weekend before – and people were even swimming in the sea! There were horses and dogs everywhere… it was a bit like my personal heaven.

The children had SO much fun, with H-Bear completely filling his wellies with water! Busby took a while to warm up to the idea of getting wet, but once she saw how much we laughed as H became more and more soggy, she decided it wasn’t so bad.

For the first time in a long time, I asked Nick to take some photos of me with the children. I’m still in a bit of a post-miscarriage funk about my body, but there are no photos of me with the children recently, so I’m trying to work through it.

I think I’m going to train him up to be my photography assistant, as he took direction well and got quite into it!

Bertie loved going in the sea this week and made friends with quite a few dogs. We need to work on his recall though!

Fraisthorpe was a lot busier than Mappleton (I’m sure the fact it wasn’t snowing had something to do with this!), but because the tide was semi-out and the sand just kept on going, it didn’t feel busy. And comparatively, it was nothing to the busyness of Brighton beach!

After over two hours on the beach, we headed back to the car for homemade ginger cake and a dry change of clothes.

We’re planning on visiting Barmston beach next weekend, which has been recommended by one of my mum friends. Bring on the adventure!

Oh my goodness I just love the wellies! And it looks like you are having so much fun on the beach. I wish we lived nearer to the beach as I am sure we would have been there most weekend too. I love the beach in Winter almost as much as I love the beach in summer!

This looks like such great fun! Winter beach days are the best. Glad you are getting back in front of the camera instead of just behind it.

You would love the beaches up here in north east! We have lots of sand dunes! My cousins who grew up near where you live used to bring sledges up when they came to visit and we would sledge down the dunes!

Those rainbow wellies are adorable. Such stunning photographs and it looks like such a happy trip to the beach. The seaside is my happy place so I’d love to live near lots of beaches. Reading this post just made me feel happy. And you look gorgeous in the photos. I’m so glad you asked Nick to take them. Thank you so much for linking up to #Ourweekendhappy. We hope to see you back next week with more beach adventures. Hugs Lucy xxxx
